The Buddhist stupa is a hemispherical
dome-like structure made of stone. Within the stupa and directly below
the dome, is a casket in which are preserved relics of Buddha. One cannot
enter the stupa, but merely go around it on what is known as a pradakshina
path that is specially created for the purpose. In India, the most notable
is the Sanchi stupa 60 km from Bhopal in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
