Holi, the exuberant festival of colours, is one of the much awaited ones in India. However, this festival is also known for wastage of water and pollution. Let us feel and spread the real essence of Holi festival by celebrating in an eco-friendly way.
Holi is a festival filled with colours, enthusiasm and excitement. The only drawback is that some of the colours that are used in the festival harm our skin and body. Not only this the chemicals used in the colours even harm our environment. By celebrating Holi in eco-friendly way we can not only help our environment, but also have some sense of satisfaction to our celebration.

Tips for Eco-Friendly Holi

Here are some tips for celebrating an eco-friendly Holi.

1. Make your own Eco-Friendly colour

If you love the festival of Holi, you will be surprised to know that you can prepare natural colours in very simple ways. This will not only save your friend’s skin and system from being harmed, but also save our environment from the toxic chemicals that would get wash away in flowing water when rinsed.
Natural and eco-friendly colours are also available in the market. Make sure you buy them from a reliable source and share it with your friends also so that the colours used on you are also safe.

2. Avoid Wastage of Water

Lots of water gets used up in Holi. Educate your children and help them save water as far as possible. Some people celebrate dry Holi, which is also a very good and eco-friendly way. However, children would perhaps not agree to these terms and so helping your kids understand the purpose behind saving water is very important. Educate them about the scarcity of water that many cities and villages in India face.

3. Say “No” to Plastic

Children and youngsters find it very exciting to throw plastic bags and balloons filled with colours on other people. Avoid using these and let your children follow your advice as well. You can use sprinkles instead and this will also help save water in return.

Since Holi is a festival celebrated to spread love and brotherhood, a simple line of colour put on other person’s forehead, which is called tika, is enough to show your love. You can show your love by offering sweets and salty snacks to those who visit your home.

5. Celebrate Holi with Flowers

If possible organize a Holi celebration in your society, apartment or home and celebrate it with flowers. In some places men and women wear traditional clothes and instead of gold or silver ornaments, they decorate themselves with ornaments made of flowers. This shows open hearted welcome to spring and new flowers also.
