Well, ginger is safe even for babies. You can add it to your toddler’s food to get the benefits and to make it more interesting. However, you must consult your doctor before adding ginger to your baby’s or your child’s diet. Experts are of the opinion that adding small quantity of ginger in your baby’s food is better than adding salt or sugar.

Ginger Remedies for Treating Health Ailments

Let us take a look at the home remedies in which ginger is used for treating common ailments in children.

1. Natural Remedy for Stomach Ache

If your child is suffering from stomach ache, even due to flatulence, colic spasms, dyspepsia or other stomach issues, one-fourth of tea spoon of ginger juice mixed with half tea spoon of lime juice will help cure the problem. You can give this two times a day for sustained problem.

2. Natural Remedy for Digestive Issues

Ginger helps cure different types of digestive problems like indigestion, constipation, flatulence and others. If you feel any of such problems in your child, add a little amount of ginger in your child’s food.

3. Helps Keep Respiratory Problems at Bay

Ginger helps keep your child away from allergies which are the actual cause behind respiratory problems like asthma and bronchitis. It inhibits airway contraction and stimulates secretion of mucus. It also helps cure consistent cough and sore throat.

4. Helps Increase Appetite

Just making your child have a small piece of fresh ginger before meal, will help her get back the appetite. This is important especially if your child was ill or has less than normal appetite.

5. Instant Cure for Nausea and Vomiting

Ginger helps deal with nausea due to motion sickness, seasickness or nausea following a surgery. Just let your child have a small piece of ginger when there is a vomiting sensation felt.

6. Protects and Strengthens Liver

Liver is a strong and resilient organ in an adult, but it is not the same with young children. Adding ginger to your child’s food will help strengthen her liver. It also helps protect liver and reduces liver toxicities as well.

7. Heals Gastric Ulcers

Although surprising, but gastric ulcer is one of the risks infants and toddlers face often. Ginger will help child stay away from ulcers because it cures much before ulcers might become threat for your child.

Precautions While Giving Ginger to Small Kids

1. Avoid giving too much of ginger because ginger is strong, hot and sharp-tasting.

2. Avoid adding honey to ginger juice especially when you are giving it to infants. However, you can give it to toddlers above one year.

3. Even though ginger helps stay away from allergy, but when you start adding ginger to your child’s food, look out for allergic signs.

4. Being allergic to ginger cannot completely be denied.

In addition to above mentioned healing power, regular usage of ginger helps to get healthy skin, reduce inflammation and even reverse diseases. The ideal time to start adding ginger to your infant’s food is after he or she has been introduced to solid food. It is advisable to wait for few days and add ginger only when you are sure that your child is capable of digesting solid food properly. For example, if solid food is added in the sixth month, start giving your child ginger from eighth month. It is also very important to consult your doctor before adding ginger to your baby’s diet.
