How to Keep Children Healthy During Summers?

How to Keep Children Healthy During Summers
Keeping kids healthy and active during summer break becomes very important. Read on to learn about how to keep children healthy during summers and help them reconnect with activities to help their mind and body stay lively.
Summer has set in and very soon kids are going to have summer break in schools. The scorching heat, sweating and high level of humidity leaves everyone exhausted and de-energized. But, children have plenty of free time and they want to enjoy the time free from the strenuous and monotonous classroom activities.
Parents start worrying about the health of their children because as the temperature and humidity increases, risks for heat related illness increases especially in kids. Kids like to spend as much time as possible outdoors paying no attention to their health and safety. Here are some tips to help parents stay careful and ensure kid’s safety and health from the unbeatable heat.

5 Tips for Keeping Children Healthy During Summers

1. Serve Nutritious Food

In summer break children spend entire day at home and they do not have to restrict themselves in eating the food that is in their lunch boxes. Keeping in mind the likes and dislikes of your children, you can also try lots of nutritious options in breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Offer seasonal fruits and vegetables because they have plenty of nutrition helpful in beating the scorching heat. Restrict the amount of heat inducing foods in the diet of your children to prevent health issues.

2. Keep Them Hydrated

Depending on the age of your child, pay attention to their water intake especially during summer season. Make sure they carry a water bottle and drink water at regular intervals when they play outdoors. If your child sweats a lot, he or she would need more water than other children. Lack of proper water intake would make her exhausted and prone to illnesses due to excessive heat.

3. Protect their Delicate Skin

Children who play outside or if you have plans to go on summer vacation on sea beach, make sure you apply a good quality sunscreen on your child’s exposed part of skin along with his or her face. This will help reduce the risk of sunburn. Staying in the shade and covering most part of the body with right clothing will also protect your child’s skin from harmful sunrays.

4. Keep Them Active

Many parents encourage their kids to stay indoors and let them watch TV or play video games so that they stay safe during summers. Just as eating healthy and keeping hydrated are important, keeping your child active during summer is also equally necessary. Kids should get at least 1 – 2 hours of physical activity in a day. Activities like walking to the playground or making a trip to a store also gets included in this. Evening time is the best time to encourage physical activities as they do not have to deal with scorching sunrays at this time.

5. Have Some Relaxation Time

Summer is a season when you need to slow down a bit from time to time. Since kids stay very active, it is your duty to encourage them to relax between their play times. You can inspire them to play some brain games like spell-o-fun, chess, ludo and many more depending on your child’s age and interests.
Staying concerned about your child’s health and safety is quite natural, but this does not mean that you should not allow your child to play outdoors. Taking proper and necessary precautions will keep your child to be safe and protected.
Be consistent and keep a check on your child. Watch out for overexposure and let them take time in shade and drink water. Intake of natural and seasonal fruits as well as fruit juices will also help children stay hydrated and safe during summers.
