When a mother is a working, she is expected to play two important roles in addition to her existing ones- that of a nurturer as well as a provider. Caring for a baby is something that has always been believed to be a woman’s role. Hence, immediately after returning from work the working mom is expected to take on her domestic responsibilities and look after her child irrespective of how tired she may be. In such a scenario it is important for women to seek help of her spouse and extended family members.

In olden days women had the advantage of depending upon joint family members to look after a baby while they were away at work. However, today with most families being nuclear ones it has become essential for the woman to adjust her work schedules around her family obligations. In many cases the men too willingly contribute and are ready to should responsibilities of bringing up the children.

Resuming Work after Childbirth

When is it a good time to resume work after having a baby? This is one of the most difficult decisions working mothers have to make. Returning to work requires tremendous skill, multitasking abilities and the emotional ability to handle stress at work, home and the guilt of leaving behind a child.

It is recommended that women stay at home to spend time with their infants at least for the initial six months. Thereafter, depending upon how soon reliable childcare arrangements can be made to look after the toddler the mom can resume work. It is an immense responsibility for someone else to look after others children.

Balancing Work and Family

Majority of women are born with intrinsic abilities to cope with family and work. A working mom will need to plan and juggle her time so that she is able to comfortably meet the demands of both her family and job.

Arrangements for Leaving the Child Behind

Parents need to be completely sure and certain about leaving the child in the hands of a skilled and caring person. Irrespective of whether it is a live in maid or a day care centre it is important to identify help which can be totally trusted. It is also essential to formulate a back up child care arrangement plan to help cope on the days on which the regular care giver may not be able to attend to her duties because of any unforeseen circumstances.

The Benefits of Being a Working Mother

Women with successful careers get a great deal of satisfaction and a sense of self worth because of their jobs. It is important for some women to work to stay happy. Work provides challenges and intellectual stimulation. In addition to monetary compensation being away from home, meeting people and having friends for company during some part of the day are all some of the benefits of being a working woman.

So as long as a woman is able to identify and entrust her little one in the hands of a capable care giver there is no reason for her to give up a satisfying job. There are countless women who have excelled in their careers and at the same time raised their children well.

Most working mothers would agree that staying at home with a demanding baby or toddler is equally taxing than going back to work. To bring up a toddler you have to learn and do things all by yourself without any formal training. Work on the other hand provides recognition, monetary compensation while allowing you to raise a child without having to sacrifice on your happiness and personal satisfaction.
