I didn' t want to continue on this thread coz we seem to be losing the point here.
FDA website says Gerber has done a VOLUNTARY recall on organic cereal lines.
FDA cannot recall ,it can only ban.
Recalls are made by companies wherein consumers get full refund of the product.
Butter and transfat - Im doing a copy and paste
Not all trans fats are bad! The naturally-occurring trans fat conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) may offer health benefits. Naturally found in beef, lamb and dairy products (full fat), conjugated linoleic acid has been studied for its potential role in weight loss and osteoporosis prevention.

Once again ,I don' t want to debate about cerelac. It' s a parental decision of every individual. So ,I' d like to stay away from that.

I' d like to close our discussion on this thread. If you' d like to talk about it more, let me know. we can take it offline and I' ll be happy to give out my email ID.

hey, i stay in UK.i hope you are talking of nestle cerelac.
nestle cerelac is not indian product ! swapna google it.you will know it is from uk.they cannot sell baby product so widely all over the word if it has harmful amount of transfats in it.
this is available in US and they are selling it only because they are allowed.FDA or other country food department will ban this product if it contains more than required amounts of transfat.ped in US,UK as well as in India, all have recommended nestle baby cereal only because it is safe.

i have been to all of these countries as my husband has travelling job and i got cerelac in all of these countries.so sharing my experience.

btw, neelima previously also your post have misguided everyone.if you don' t have full knowledge of something, arguements are bound to happen.

FDA recalled it.gerber organic was new brand line.
cerelac is old one from ages, like the normal gerber in US is.
i google it ! butter contains harmful fats alongwith useful fats. those harmful fats are more harmful than the transfat says the fda gov site.
i googled it :-)

Anushree

Im not starting a debate here about feeding cerelac or not. It´ s upto each mom to decide what or not feed the child . In my view ,I´ d stay away from a product that I deem harmful. My post was only about butter and trans fat. All diary has good trans fat -google it again.
Just as a side note, I´ d never trust the FDA or other agencies in the world but only my mommy instinct. FYI,if you had read recently ,gerber ,the macho name in baby foods, recalled their organic line of rice cereal last month due to a potential choking hazard for babies. The product came into the market only after FDA had approved it. So what do we do now? Trust FDA and keep feeding it?
To each their own.

you were previously talking about giving fat to food like butter.30grams. do you know butter contains double strans fat than ceralac does ? check yourself by looking at the packet of ceralac and butter. you will know.

i think ceralac is made for babies only and they keep in mind how much fat does baby need. so i think its safe atleast than feeding your baby 30grams of fat that has more trans fat.

Im not sure about cerelac containing trans fat or not coz I don´ t get it where I live but I wanted to add my 2 cents on butter and transfat. Butter has natural transfat which is a good form of tranfat. In the case of processed foods like cerelac or anything ,the transfat creeps in during hydrogenation which is done to increase the shelf life of the product. Just becoz cerelac is a baby food ,it´ s not completely absolved of any wrong doing. Is there any authority in India (like the FDA in the US) that regulates the quality of food to be marketed to consumers? If the label says it has trans fat ,I would steer clear of the product.
Neelima, good job done to make other concerned moms aware of this.

However for convinience on days when im unavailable i introduced her to cereal, 1st bites. Its organic and was recommended by my ped. However , it offers minimum variety , hence was contempleting if to start Cerelac. Thanks so much.. i shall refrain from it..
