Feeding:Am I going wrong or is this ok?

Hi all,
Ayush is about to complete 5 months in a week and I have just started with giving semi-solids. We started off with daal pani, then banana and now cerelac. He passes green stools (not all of them, but most of them) and these days he is getting constipated.
I am giving a brief of the diet, could you let me know what I need to change or I could improve?
Around 8-9 AM- daal pani (fed in bottle) or completely mashed daal (in Cerelac consistency.). Do we need to give water if it is mashed daal? I use moong daal or masoor daal
11 AM and 9 PM- Cerelac (mostly mixed with Lactogen-1 and water, little liquid enough to feed in bottle)
Around 2-3 PM- Banana (quantity as much as he takes)
All other feeds are Lactogen 1.

I need to sort out this constipation problem, what should I take care of? Sometimes we give him Bonnisan, but don’t want to make it a habit.
Let me know your personal experiences!!

Thanks
Shalini Deb

Prune juice are good to be given for solid eating babies. Since it has a sour taste and my daughter doesnt like to drink , i give 1-1.5 gerber prune juice mixed with cereal or diluted with water whenever she is constipated and it works like wonder all the time.

if you are feeding solids make sure to give atleast 2 oz of boiled water everyday to avoid constipation. this has been one of my learnings.

Thanks
Asha

I started my daughter on rice cereal when she was 5.5 months and she was super constipated. I gave her 2 oz of water after her cereal but it didn' t help. So I switched to oatmeal .She was doing fine for a couple of days and she went back to getting plugged. I gave her daal water or mashed daal and it again helped for 2 days and she was plugged again. Their bodies gets accustomed to what we give in a few days ,it seems.
I was at the ped for her 6 month well baby visit ,when the doc told me start her on veggies and fruits. All fruits with P ,like, pears, peaches, prunes and plums make them go. Bananas and Apples tend to constipate them more.(BRAT- banans, rice, apples and toast constipate)
I stopped banans and apples, that I gave her really rare and started her on green beans . Her bowel movement has been good for the last couple of days.No more straining and shrieking. Call your ped' s office to check if they have something to tell you since your child is not 5 months yet and can' t be put on veggies or fruits.

what prunes are called in hindi. About adding them to the bottle - I would still call the ped to make sure it´ s OK. Maybe you could add diluted prune juice to his bottle once a day and check.
Im not sure if it´ ll help -but I found that other moms add a dash of unsulphured molasses or karo syrup to the bottle to help ease the bowels.I haven´ t tried it myself though.
