Feeding:Hetal/Gauri/DKS/ANYONE..please give some help here

my 11 month old is not really eating well..she is a formula baby from the beginning..her daily intake right now is between 24-30 oz a day..she drinks juice of 4 oz and then water at other times..

i have tried the gerber 1st foods, she hates it..i think it is too pureed for her..so i have been making cutlets out of carrots, green peas and green beans, and she likes them..or she likes these vegetables in her dosa also..

i made a nice cereal of tuvar/moong/masoor/rice/cracked wheat, does not like it when it is in cereal form, but when i make into a little \" dosa\" , she likes it..

i cannot feed her dosa everyday, can i?
and i need ideas of getting her fruits in everyday, i certainly cannot make dosa out of apple...

she hates the gerber rice and oatmeal cereal..and she does like the gerber wagon wheel and the biting biscuit..she is still learning how to chew, is that normal at this stage? sometimes if a bigger chunk goes in, she starts to gag..

you know, i need to have this girl start eating better, because we are going to india in november, and the last thing i want to hear from my mother-in-law, who has not seen her granddaughter yet, say something like \" aiga, what are you doing, she does not eat anything???..no wonder she is thin..\"

please help..i have already visited the other posts that have been recommended..but i need help, for her, and possibly mental for me, because all i do is worry about her eating..

first of all gv her what she likes...ccoz babies are fussy about eating...u cant help it...my daughter too doesnt like oatmeal..but still i make sure she eats oat atleast once a week....or twice...after 1 year they start developing tastes..now if u dont gv them habit of eating everything ...later she wont eat ...n i think u should start with cow milk...slowly now ...
another thing i she eats dosa well that means she knows how to bite n chew the food given to her...thats a good thing...for 11 month...
i hv seen one 2 n a 1/2 year old child eating ...mashed food like infant..
dont gv her big chunks ...pls be with her whn she is eating ...she is still small...
n u should keep check on er weight not on how she looks fat or thin...
pls 4get about ur mil..no comments ...enjoy ur holiday..
pls dont worry ...
fruits u can try milk shakes.....
according to me ...u should gv everything to baby after 1 year ..so that they get a habbit of eating everything that is cooked at home..or else u will be always making small quantity for her...
if u want know diet for 1 year let me know....by hetal...

Hi Maddie,
Another thing- if your daughter is having dosa that means she has learned to use her gums to break down small food morsels, which is what babies usually do.

So dont worry too much about her chewing her food. Ofcourse that is not to say you can give her hard food or big morsels. but small, soft foods she can manage.

Hi Maddie,

Make pancakes for her with fruit.Im sure she will like it. You can make the pancake with wheat flour batter, add steamed r pureed fruits in the batter.

Have you tried giving her mashed potatoes with milk and cheese- most kids enjoy that.
She obviously doesnt enjoy bottled food, and maybe she likes the texture of dosa, so give her roti in dal or parathas. I give my 11 month old son parathas with potato, cauliflower etc stuffing, with a little ghee and he enjoys it.

What about rice? Do you give her stuff like dal with rice? try giving her the foods you eat at home. Maybe its the texture that she wants.

For fruit you can also add steamed or pureed fruit to baby cereal. I add apples and pears to cerelac.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice..you know i was giving her dal and rice and roti, but i probably was mashing it too much, like pureed..so i should keep it a little more solid and she will eat it..it was just that she was scaring me because she would gag sometimes..

I have a 6 month old and what I may state may not be of real help ,neverthless ,I' ll make a try. First off for a 11 month old ,do you give 1st foods? Is that not for babies starting solids? They are too watery and pureed. Can you try stage 2 or 3 foods that are different in texture?
Is it just the Gerber brand that she hates? Coz my cousin' s daughter hated Gerber and she switched to heinz. We don' t get Heinz in the US ,so Im using Beech nut and Earth' s best(they are soy free, gerber has soy in cereal)
that' s my 2 cents and hth
