i' m starting my first IVF this week.............what questions should i be asking my doctor?He has only broadly explained the process to me.......2nd day blood test then,injections everyday,then egg retrieval around 14th day and then embryo transfer........
WE HAVE MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY.Everything is ok with me and i' m 30 years old.We are having ICSI done.
1.How many injections would i be given?
2.what day does egg retieval happen?
3.how many eggs are retrieved?
4.how many are fertilised?
5.how many are put back and after how many days?
6.what happens to the rest of embryos?
7.is egg retrieval and ebryo transfer helpful?
8.is bed rest required after embryo transfer?
9.any precaution i should be taking?
10.does scan happen everyday from the 2nd day of the period till the day of egg retrieval?

Can someone pls answer these questions for me?i will be vey grateful.

We also have male factor infertility and would be going through ICSI. If you are still active on these message boards, can you tell me the result of your first IVF? Was it successful? (Hoping it WAS successful!!)

Ritu Diva replied. 1. There are many different injections given for many different purposes.
a. Follicle stimulating injections:Number of these depends on how your body responds. They will start with one dose & then will be adjusted accordingly depending on your body' s response, which will be known through the scans.
I was asked to take these injectios starting CD-3.I took them for abt 9 days. Dosage was increased in between after 4 days.

b.To prevent early ovulation : This is to suppress your hormonal system to prevent early ovulation, while you are on follicle stimulating drugs.
I was asked to start this on 5th day on follicle stimulaing shot, for 5days.(so till CD-11).

c.HCG shot : This is to trigger ovulation once thereare sufficient follicles with the desired size.
his is only one shot, generally be taken 36 hrs before your egg retrieval is scheduled.

d. Apart from this there will be shots of progesterone. Progesterone is available in the form of shots /suppository / vaginal gel / troches. So it depends on what your doctor would suggest you.

2. Egg retrieval again depends on the number of the follicles developed & the size of the follicles. My doc said that 6-8 follicles of abt 18mm should be good to go. It should happen any time between CD 11-16.

3. Basically follicles are retrieved. Follicles will have eggs inside. Number of eggs may be equal to OR less than the follicles as some follicles may not contain matured eggs.
Number of eggs retrieved again depends on how many follicles matured, depends on the individal.

4.Generally each egg will be injected with one sperm. The fertilization count depends on the quality of the egg & sperm.

5. Generally 2 or 3 will be put back. Doctors may ask you as to how many you want to be put in. But again this also depends the development of embryo.
Embryos will be put 3 days / 5 days after the egg retrieval.

6. Rest of the embryos can be freezed if you wish. Your doctor or the facility will advice you.

7. I did not quite understand your question here.

8. Bedrest of abt 1-2 hrs may be adviced after embryo tfr. It again depends on your docctor. You may be asked to take it easy for sometime.

9. May be try resting your feet up, after embryo tfr. before doing any job, just ask will this cause any trouble for me later. Even if the answer is yes10%, dont do that work. Take it easy for a while.

10. I do not know how your doctor will take up. But I did not have scan everyday from CD-2. As I started the shots on CD-3, i had next scan Cd-7. Next one CD-11 & CD-13.

Rene, basically everything depends on the individual and your doctor. Have complete faith in your doctor & the treatment. Be positive. The results do vary individually. I have just tried to answer with my experience.
