i went to dr. sonia malik n she diagnosed pcos. well i didn' t have cyst before but then body goes thru so many changes, can some body tell me why it happens i mean is it due to lifestlye or eating habits or some genes or side effect of some medicine. she suggested metformin, does this medicine has any side effects, is it perfectly safe as i don' t want to take any chances now i' m fed of taking medicines n going thru one or the other test.

Hi Prerna,

I am sailing in the same boat as you. My doc diagnosed PCOS when I was 26. I have been leaving with it for the past 2 yrs. There are many reasons attributed to it like genes, insulin resistance, obesity, stress etc.
I have been taking Metformin500mg twice a day for the past 1 yr. This actually helps in production of Insulin, if your PCOS is because of insulin resistance. Initially I started with 1 tablet per day & was increased to 2 per day after a week. I had the same feeling ' getting frustraed with meds' , but then its for our good. So take it easy. Think positive & ake your meds regularly.

thanxs diva, thanks for ur advice. but did u concieve after taking metformin for such a long time? coz i´ m very impatient and don´ t stick to a procedure for long so max i give 3 months to a medicine n then i move on to next gynae hoping that she do a better job. and u did tell if there were any side effects. pls do let me know.
