Hi,
My sister-in-law is planning to go for divorce. thiers was love marriage and she has a 8 year old daughter.Me and My husband both loves and cares for her and had told her many times that whatver we have we are happily ready to share with her.we also started some business and she is managing it, which gives her a moderate income too. Now she is planning to apply for a divorce. we thought her kid should be told clearly what is going on before she applies. so my husband told to delay filing a bit late. and she is losing her temper saying she is the one who is suffering and always tells whether we are afraid of her being a burden to us.i don't know how to help her in this situation. she just put her as a lonely person. may be she is undergoing stress . i thought someone who are undergone divorce can guide me so we can understand her feeling well.

Obviously, naturally, your sis-in-law is going to get angry and emotional if you ask her any questions at this time. Yes, you are right , she is under stress. So please dont ask or tell her anything. Of course, you and your husband are very much concerned about her and her daughter. It would better to leave her alone for some time and let her take her own decisions. You can always help her when she asks for it. But dont force anything on her. In case her eight year old daughter asks whats happening, then surely you can talk to her slowly and calmly about whats happening, but not until she asks for it. Could be the girl already has some hint of whats happening or she might get to know once the divorce happens. So why hurry things.

RE:Need Help: Explaining reason of divorce to my 5 ye
Dear Reshma,
I can understand what you are going through. This matter is very sensitive and should be handled carefully as it may affect your child's development. I feel that you must definitely take the help of a counselor. ... - Kanchi [View Message]
