Trying since long:Laproscopy-Archie and all--please help
2007-02-14
Name: Padma Varadharajan

Hi all
I went to doc today after a 3 month gap. The doc suggested to go for laproscopy to see if there is any issue.
Have anyone done this procedure? what is the plus and minus?
Archie, can you please help me?
The doc wants it to be done on Monday which leaves me with very less time to take a 2nd opinion also...

Any info about this would be helpful (cost, pain, post paro, success of preg after lapro)

Many thanks friends
Padma

Before IVF its better to go for Laproscopy - but what I am trying to convey is laproscopy would be a preliminary thing for IVF - but make sure all avenues have been explored such as HSG etc if your sure your tubes are not patent only then they will go ahead with IVF etc - my only concenrn is when docs/gynos start hurrying up for any particular surgery such as these (non-critical) it shouldnt be another money-making attempt - if you know wht i mean! so take second opinions...

Padma dear
Better go for laproscopy ,if u have not concvieved after prolonged TTC.B' coz 50% women concieve after doing laproscopy(though i was among the unlucky ones).

Hi - I had a Laproscopy myself - but this was done after atleast 2 ultrasound scans which confirmed that they saw something ' different' in one of my tibes I assume you have done your scans couple of times atleast to be very sure? Ultrasound scan show any fibroids and polyps and can be treated
Typically after they see what is exactly wrong inside through a scan a doc decides course of action - if everything is fine in the scan why dont you ask doc for HSG instead? its just a suggestion - Hysterosalpingogram its called,it checks the tube patency - they introduce a dye in your uterus which passes through the tubes if they are clear and will not pass if they are blocked - the dye is introduced through your cervix and does not involve surgery

Laproscopy is a surgery in itself even though a very small - if the doc is gurrying you for a laproscopy and the above options i mentioned have not been discussed - i suggest take a second opinion from another Gyno

Laproscopy is a vry small surgery in itself but you need to take rest couple of days and not drive etc and also not lift heavy stuff

all the best!

Hi Padma,
The cost of L maybe around Rs 20,000. There will be some pain and discomfort for 2-3 days and also more gas in the stomach. U will be completely fine in 4-5 days. If you r working, take 3 days off. Some women conceive soon after L as the tubes r cleaned out and any minor blockage is taken care of. It is also a diagnostic tool through which the Dr will check your tubes and uterus to see if there r blockages, fibroids etc which r obstacles in conception. If any of these r found, they will decide further course of action to help u conceive. So go ahead. Its a safe procedure and most women who r ttc go through it. All the best.
