hi all,

I have a baby boy,who is 10 months now.He is both on solid feeding and formula.I use avent steam steriliser for sterlising all his bottles(avent bottles n teats) and feeding cups n spoons.

Is it required to sterlise them still,as he turned 10 months now.Or can i put them in dishwasher??plz advice me.

regards,
sruthi

always put them in top rack and use the liquid dishwasher, says my doc.so i did that. before i use to use cascade or electrosol tablets.
i use the bottle, nipple basket which fits in the top rack row perfectly. these are of standard sizes and fit all dishwashers. google it, you will get the picture, price and other information.
these baskets keep our tiny kitchen things like cooker whistle, sippy cup parts, cup spouts and are very cheap. try it
hope this is helpful !

hi ! sruthi, going back to your last question. i am not sure where you' re located but u can get these mesh baskets where u can put the nipple, other party - that can jump out into the bottom of the dishwasher in any baby aisle in a good grocery store here in USA. but i have this dishwasher were the section where u put spoons etc has two sets with covers just like the basket i am talking about. ya ! the mesh basket if u buy separately should go on the upper level and so do the bottles. and since i toss them in the dishwasher they dry automatically & r sterilized. but otherwise i store them like our other normal flatware. so no special place for the little things. u know. all the best! hope this is useful.

hi ! sruthi, surely, u can toss the bottles in the dishwasher. like u i also sterilse bottles in the steamer. but the doc says it' s fine after about 7-8 mnths. i don' t sterlise the spoons, saucers etc. that' ll be too much. i mean u can' t actually have a germ free enviornment for them. it' s not possible. u have to be practicle. right !! and also i have tried just washing the bottles well with hot water and soap too. and nothing really happened. so go ahead toss them in the dishwasher. that' s what i am doing now totally. all the best !

If you ask a doc, he would advise sterilising a bottle till you are using it.
For 10m old babies, they advise training the baby to cup/glass. You can use sippy cups if you want.

I have been sterilising the bottles by boiling till this time. My baby is 11m. I trained her to sippy cup but not yet to cup for some personal conveniences.

I observed my baby is eating quite a lot normal food. I hv seen her biting elder kid' s left overs (jhootha), and seen him kissing Didi' s lips and toungue and picking up and eating stuff from floor which i will call as no-no. What i mean is, i see ample chances of the baby getting infected, but looks like his resistance has grown. I first stopped sterilising bowl and spoon (when he was 6-7m) and now wash iot normally like other.
Assuming all this, i changed from sterilising bottles to simply dipping it in very hot water, then to hot water, then to nicely washing them.

I think u r in US but i am in india. But i too use the avent bottles. When i told this to my doc, he suggested to boil bottles till i m using them and warned me. But i boil just the nipples after that. The baby is fine, touchwood.

I guess in India we should be more careful but in US you can gradually accustom the baby and grow resistance.

Always always consult the baby' s pediatrician before executing anything from posts like this.
