i am getting married next month..mine is love marriage and my in laws have not asked specifically for any dowry..they have said that it is our wish...but they had said that we should help in setting up the house as we will b staying alone...now wat does this mean??is this a way of dowry??or this is anyway expected of girl' s side? friend replied. hi
My Inlaws said that they don' t want anything as they have everything and my husband was abroad , but my father gave everything to them car, fridge, microwave sofa dinning table etc and cash too, but till today she tells everybody including me ki merey betey ko itna mil raha tha utna mil raha tha, aaj ke zamaney mein na maango to kuch milta hi nahi hai, etc I don' t know what she wanted from us, but she keep taunting all the time. replied. When a newly married couple starts living alone, sure they need some basic facilities to start with. As both the sides from where the original two residents come and start living in this new home should have almost equal responsibilities for setting up this new home.

If the balance in this contribution is lop sided, its dowry!

If the new set up includes a car or a flat to be given by the girl' s parents, its for sure dowry!

Incidentally asking for or even giving dowry is illegal in this country.
