about other tips, on finger foods, lumpier foods check the post below:

2. best way to intrduce lumpier food is increasing the texture of the food you are already offering as of now..lets say you are offering dal/rice and vegies,,,
one day, give your baby mashed dal/rice,and mashed vegies,,,
day 2, give mashed dal/rice and unmashed tiny overcooked pieces of vegies which are often like lumps,,while offering in one spoon,,give one lump first. dont give dal/rice gravy with it,,see how your baby reacts,,if he throws up, the next bite what you will do is, mash the other bite with your hand and its bit unmashed but easier to eat or dissolve in mouth,,,see how he reacts and accordingly bring him to the level that he eats lumps well..
offer one lump first in first spoon and the second will be gravy,,so that his mouth/throat passage does not feel dry with lumpy texture,,sometimes thats what choke babies !!!
day 3,offer mmore number of lumps and increased texture just in the same way,,give him enough time to learn how to eat them ! babies do choke in many tries,,but you have to keep trying,,the size of lumps are very small as if like peas !!!
day 4, give more lumpier foods, with bigger size,..tell him to pick it himself..just place the bowl before him,,let him play and njoy the fun !! be ready to clear the messsss.

above all, dont rush, go slow ! your child has whole life ahead to BE ready for finger foods..

same happens with my baby(10 mths) too when i give him biscuits. so i hv stopped giving him those. but he eats vertical slices of bread(very fresh one only) very nicely. as for chapati, this is what i do..break it into tiny pieces and leave it on the tray of the high chair and he picks up one by one and eats. same things with paneer / cheese(very fresh one again). but yes, you always hv to watch your child when he eats by himself. my son got used to eating finger foods only by end of 10 mth.but i still watch him and even today i am scared that he will choke himself. so be patient. and don' t rush. you just hv to train her to eat by herself even if it means a little amount. they gradually learn by observing how their parents eat. and i don' t know if in india we get specially made finger foods for babies. i am in the uk and we get ready finger foods here which i give when we r on the go..please check hetal' s orevious posts. there are some specially on finger foods.
