Problems in School:Crying in the school!!!
2006-11-15
Name: Priya

This month my 3 years old son started his preschooling( 3 hrs a day, 2 days a week) and in the school he cries a lot. Before he started going he keeps telling me that he wants to go to school ( like his neighbours used to ) . He is very active and energetic guy, Love to play iwth other kids and toys a lot.

I am very much worried that he is crying in the school and when I observed him from the observation area that he is not playing ,no active and cryying a lot.

Pls share your experience with ur kids and how do u all managed it ?

hello priya, fr ur msg i presume that u r in US. i also don't know much abt ur schedule & hence why u r sending him only twice a week. crying in initial days is common. as snns said encourage ur child. but my feeling is going twice a day & staying at home(i guess) other days may also aggrvate his crying. how do u feel on mondays when u hv to go to work after spending an enjoyable weekend...blue right?? it might be the same case with ur son also. one day he goes to school, next few days he is at home, so this may result in his bout of crying. so take heart, ur son will be fine & soon will look forward to going to school. good luck.

Hi ,This is a typical problem of all kids ,most of them get over it fast some take time tho'.My younger daughter is 3 and she too goes to this preschool in holland which is also (2 days a week). My suggestion is u accompany him each time, try to spend some time with him there then slowly start a practice of waving you goodbye by standing outside (there again make him feel you are also feeling bad leaving him !) eventually he 'll start saying bye before u even try to leave ....Here i did the same when i had to leave my girl at the day care when she was just 2(i hated going to work all the time)now i am on break and she just cant stay home so its only time and routine .initially try spending atleast 20 - 25 mins slowly reduce it to 5....i hope this helps ,ciao

hi priya
this is just another difficult step that both of u'll learn to overcome..
but u as a mother should encourage him in going to school..maybe u can start telling him about what u did in u'r school days, what u liked over there, and u had so many friends to play with ,or u learned so many rhymes ,things or even u could paint...whatever the child like most..try using that..tell him the teachers or helpers r there to help him..
i think if v tell him don't cry it will not work.. the kid might get the impression that crying is wrong..keep encouraging him..tell him u'll meet him soon..hug and kiss him before u leave him..he'll know that mama loves him..

well keep trying...u know this is for his on good..it is difficult initially but i'm sure u both will be fine later...
