Hi Archie:

Hope you and your kids are doing well. My Update is as follows:

1) My husband's sperm sample is normal. The doc said everything looks ok.

2) I had my HSG today. THe doc said everything looked fine. MY tubes were not blocked. Thank God!

3) He tooks my blood for various tests but the results are not here as yet. He has put me on injectibles....and maybe wants to go for IUI next cycle. We have been trying for 10 months. This month he induced my period by BCP. I am not comfi with IUI. Is it possible that I may conceive on my own on injectibles?

Lubs archie replied. Lets finish with blood work result first. If all is well in that and that you are ovulating at least 15 days before the menses onset then you can definitely conceive naturally. You will have to believe in yourself and leave the stress aside, trust me.

Glad to know that your fallopian tubes are open as confirmed by HSG.


Baseline sonography on day 4 is done to see whether there is any carry forward of cysts. If there is any cyst, then the cycle is abandoned. Since in your case it is not so, the doctor will continue your cycle as per the treatment protocol..

Then the ultrasound will be done from day 8 till ovulation to study the number and size of follicles(eggs). Since you r on injectibles your ovaries will be stimulated to produce more follicles. Hence ultrasound is of utmost importance to study the size of the follicles and when the follicle reaches 18mm minimum, a HCG injection will be given to trigger ovulation(rupture of the follicle) and thus your intercourse/iui as the case may be will be timed accordingly. Thus ultrasound is extremely useful in determing the ovulation time and timing of the intercourse /iui.(the egg remain viable only for 24 hrs so it is important the intercourse or iui is done within that time frame)

U might conceive naturally i.e without iui since u r on injectibles; if u do not, then do not get disheartened u may go in for iui which will increase your chances of conception as it will bypass some of the factors of unexplained infertility. IUI is absolutely harmless and painless.

And one more important thing, after natural intercourse/iui as the case may be (luteal phase) please do not jog, run, lift heavy objects, no jerky movements, do not travel in auto, take thing lightly and have proper diet(avoiding heaty foods) so as to increase the chance of implantation. Implantation is avery complex process which only God knows. So have faith in God and do your duties by taking proper care of yourself.

I forgot to metion something. The doc took my Ultrasound on Day 4. He has now called me on day 8 (tomorrow) and day 11. Can you tell me why is he taking so many ultrasounds?
