Feeding:Ghee, Sugar etc for a 6 month old- Please advise

My baby boy is turning 6 months in a week' s time. I give him solids twice a day after his 4th month . He eats rice , oatmeal cereal and some fruits like plantain, banana etc. I was wondering if it is OK to mix a little ghee or sugar with the banana to improve its taste and his calorie intake. What other foods can I offer him ? The Raagi powder that we see in grocery stores, is it the same thing that we feed babies..? And how do we prepare it? Is it fine to give him diluted whole milk that we get in the US ? How about Gerber fruit juice ? I' m totally confused as to what I should and should and shouldnt be feeding my baby..Please help.

When it comes to children at such a young age, one must remember that the quantity of the food is what's most important. Excess of even something beneficial can end up causing harm to the body. I will not be able to comment on sugar since I haven't tried that when my child was younger. However, I used to feed my child very small amounts of Gowardhan ghee when he was around the same age. I only stuck to that brand since it is made from pure cow’s milk and is the safest for my child. Ghee is one of the richest sources of nutrients and proteins that play an important role in the growth and development of a child at that age.

Hi Mother,
If you feel the food which you are feeding the baby is healthy then you can feed the baby with that and it would be good to have some knowledge on that before you feed for baby.

Hi Person,
I think it not so better to keep at this month only try to keep after one or two months because the food which you keep would easily get digested also.

Hi Lady,
I think ghee and sugar can be given for kid at the age half year old.And it will not create any problem to kid also. You can feed happily to your kid by mixing them in food.

u can start with say with 1/4th tsp of ragi pwdr ..dry roast it till u get smell make sure it doesnt burn..it burns very fast...remove fm fire let it cool...add cold milk mix it properly ..put back on fire...add very little sugar...stir continously...consistency should be say little thickerr than milk...dip ur finger in pure ghee thats it add this to the mixture...let it cool n gv ur baby....
gradually u can increase ur quantity n thickness too...if ur baby doesnt like the taste then drop the idea of giving ghee...
continue if ur baby likes n suites him...
i dont know about others but i gv my baby sugar ...ghee..but in less quantity..just to change the taste...i gv her whole milk ...touch wood there is no probs
