Feeding:6 month old baby refuses to take a bottle

Hi All,

I have a 6 & 1/2 month old daughter and I have been breastfeeding her exclusive. I did try giving her rice & dal water, fruit juice, formula, milk with a spoon a few times but quite unsuccessfully. Also she just doesn' t take to a bottle. I have tried to force her to drink from a bottle but it' s quite taxing on her as well as me since she cries a lot during the process. My doctor has suggested directly feeding her with a glass, which I am trying since a couple of days. But she doesn' t seem to like the taste of milk.

I would appreciate it if anyone can give me some hints on how can I make her take a bottle or make her take other foods.

Regards,
Deepti

hi ! deepti, i had the same trouble with both my kids. actually, u r a little late in introducing. anything done before 4 mnth is accepted by infants. anyhow, u will have to do trial and hit method. buy different shapes and texture nipples for your baby. and u know don' t starve the baby to feed with bottle but now take some help with someone in the family to feed the baby like your husband whenever he' s home or your motherinlaw. as now the baby can smell so strong and a 6 mnth old baby is smart enough that if u nurse most of the time then why r u today bottlefeeding. so try someone to help u. avent, gerber-nuk and playtex-angled bottle all had wide nipples which generallywork well. i used gerber-nuk for my first and then playtex-angled bottle worked for my second. and another u could do is try bottle feeding in the middle of the night. but be persistent and keep going. be strong and consistent. children push all your buttons but they do come around. beleive me both my kids have given me a hard time but u just learn to drive around them and u' ll figure out. hope this helps !

Hi Deepti,

I am facing exactly the same problem as yours. my daughter is also 6 and 1/2 months old. Only difference being she eats and drinks a little when i feed her with a spoon. But it is extremely time consuming and frustrating at times.
Good luck.
