1. by 9months, see if you can complete the list of vegies n fruits that i talked about earlier !
start givng him our indian vegies,(without spices or in his meals or as a part of meals,), potato okay to give, if he is not sensitive to gas or constipation ! give moderatly,,throwin some spinach if potato seems to be his fav,,after trying !
1. about wat else,,at 9months to 1yearr, start offfering your child family foods(once in noon, without spices/chillies or garlic, or with mild ones,,,as accepted by him),
you can now offer, sooji upma, cracked wheat porridge,if you are nonveg, thn you can offer him hard boiled egg yolks, mixed with rice or dal or as a part of gravy,,you can give him fish, if he likes,,bake it in oven,,,if you can browse thru the boards in previous messages, you will find so many website that i think neetu or ruby someone has collectd and postd,,,go thru them you will find tons of recipes there in.
other thn that, you can offer finger foods once a snack time and see how he accepts it.
with bw 2.9kgs, his current wght, 8.96, is good not that his wght has come down ! he is going to be 9months, soon will try yo master his cruising skils..his body has to balance his wght in accordnce to his capabilities, and so he will tend to put on less wght compard to before,,also, now soon he will be toddler in a couple months,,now his muscle or body wont ask for fat, but now his muscles will get toned, and his body joints, grips n balances will get stronger,,so dont expect him to put on wght at an acceleratd grwth rate(which was until now),,,,
now he will grow but at slower pace compared to before,,,by wght,,thats how we start cheese, yogurt, and all extra fat/high calorie foods once child complts 8mnths.
start him on hard cheeses,,,start offerng him roti soaked in toor dal(familydal but with additional water or no chillies, or rasam, or sambhar with rice without strong spices or whatever your child accepts without having ne reflux or such a feeling),,offer these family foods in last 10mins of his meals,,so that even if he doesnt seem to like it,,and he doesnt eat it lateron,,you are rest assured that he had his rest 75 of meals that he was supposed to have ! and likewise know his liking,.
if he doesnt seem to like a particular food, dont rule out at once,,try next week with some other combinations,,may be he might like it, after a couple days,,sometimes it also dpends on child mood, just like we have one !
3. start him on multigrain cereal(it includes wheat flour as a part of additional grain in addition to oatflour, rice flour n barley flour),,,
like wise, you can cook all of these as below :
make a multigrain mixture in your storage container as below :
sona masoori rice or brown rice = 1cup
rolled oats = buy the ones that doesnt require more of cookng,,these are available easily in market most of times = 3/4cup
barley grains = 1/2cup
wheat grains = 1/4th cup.

mix these all and keep it stored
put this mixture in the cooker and cook it as you make khichadi, and you can put in alongwith it, spinach leeaves, and watever fruits you are offering with skin,,,and offer !
make it in advance and freeze in covered icecube trays(mostly the sections are 1 oz and its just easy for you to measure how many cubes to give in one time ! ),,,and while offering defrot it in micrwave or let it stay out for a while,,since the icecube is small, defrostng time will also reduce !
altnertly you can get gerber multigrain cereals,,,you can try them ! since they are paste like start adding overcooked lumps of boiled apple, pears or overripd bannaan pieces and start introducing your child to lumpier foods....also start soy proteins, meats, egg yolks, cheese, yogurt(yo baby if in US a sep serving) in his meals..soy kheema is great to add in all dals or curries you want to offer to your child so that he gets soy protein as a part of meal without a sep serrving,,,just like mixing egg yolks to it,,also provides good protein intake !

start him on sippy cup,,let him play with it,,
at 9months your child is now expected to eat or drink as below:

3-4 feedings or on demand/24-32 ounces total per day of formula,4-6tablespoons of cereal (or ne grains, also offering toddler cereal is great idea,,she might be ready for it, if she is done with mixed cereals),infant juice(diluted 1:2,3,4) 4oz or 1/2cup(prefer to give by sippy),fruits a total serving of 6-8tablespoons,vegies upto 6-8tablespoons,and meat or ne high protein diet as 4-6tablespoon.

you can also refer to messages dated back 2006-09-15 by poster name pria with subject \" hello need help urgently\" in feeding board,,has 9months ideas..
and also refer to message dated back 2006-09-18, by poster name savithri with subject \" diet for 9months old-hetal pls suggest\"

and all this should help you,,if not, lemee know.
good luck !

the homemade mixture that i talked about is the direct meal of multigrain cereal and not the pwder form ! soak the grains at nigght and cook them in morning, blend or mash if required..if you overcook them,,you might not feel the need of blending them !
yes, gerber multigrains are also good ! you asked about homemade so i mentioned about it :)
rest all ok !
good luck
