Hi Hetal,
My daughter didn’t gain enough weight in 6months. Her birth weight was 2.41kg and at 6months it was 5.55 kg. She is now 6months3weeks old.
She is taking normal solid food like carrot, pea, beans, apple and banana abt 6-8 tbs. Also having rice (night) and oatmeal (morning) cereal.
She doesn’t seem to like formula, only drink 4oz in a day and loosing interest in BM as well drinks sometimes 1 minute or 4 minutes.
Could u please give me your opinion abt milk issue?
She just drinks 12oz milk including formula in a day. Is it really necessary baby should drink 24-32oz milk/formula?
I would appreciate your reply.

Wish you a safe delivery and good luck.

Renu

sry missed many points in the post before....here is the additional matter along with the prev one...

with her bw, at 6months, 5.5kg is okay..

start her on spinach n sweet potato. in fruits, start her on pears, peaches.
the formula she drinks is really less. 12oz is less amt,,your baby is expected to drink atleast until 18-20oz, if not more thn that.the formula intake that she is taking right now is the amt of milk that she will be takng at around 2years onwards,,,and before that she is required to drink.
if it helps, reducing the solids 1tbs less here and there,,might help her drink.
if the formula taste the problem then you can try as belw:
1. mix your 80% bm and 20% formula,,and see her acceptance,,likewise, decrease the percentage of bm and wean her to formula,,,see if that makes her accept the formula.
2. you can try changing the Brand of the formula,,sometimes it helps..all formula are designd to give proper nutrients acc to thr respective age,,and only process and % of nutrients inside it differs,,so changng the brand might help your child to accept the formula and take the required milk at her age.
3. sometimes changing the nipple of the bottle also helps in acceptance of formula.
4. temperature of formula sometimes is the reason,,try in diff temperature, like lukewarm next to cool liquid formula, or lukewarm or sometimes with normal room temperature water,,,see if she accepts that way !
5. the distance between feeds of solids and formula,,has to be around 2-3hours,,see if that helps.
6. after solids, make sure her activity levels are high,,mostly when solids are started,,baby feels heavy as its not liquid diet(afterall) and mostly due to this, he doesnt seem to feel like drinking milk or formula.
7. many a times it has happend that the changing the formula preparatn helps. some babies didnt accept the pwderd formula of the same brand and they acceptd the readymade liquid formula of that particular brand,,see if something like that works on your baby.for all formula you try, dont change the type of the formula but only the brand...if at all aftr all trials, you dont succdd talk to your dr if soy formula or ne other type of formula is right for your baby or not...most of the times,if the baby is not allergic to milk based formulas,,drs dont advice for soy formula,,unless baby feels heavy with milk based ones and doesnt drink them well, due that reason....
8. sometimes some babies are more inclined towards solids thn milk feeds,,if after all trials, your baby capacity to drink formula remains the same, thn its the indication that your child is more inclined in solids and so for you, a better alternative is start her on foods that has formula in each thing,,like if you make ne home made food, just add the prepared formula in it and give her,,so that atleast in that way, she gets the required nutrients from the formula,,if not directly.
altnatly,,you can start offerng her other varieties of food, as soon as you think that she has accepted one and put her on solid diet that includes all the nutrients, esp the iron and fibr until 1year...
and other you can do at 6montths to help her gain good is as below,,see if it helps you get the complte idea of what all to give until 9months...lemme know if nething in the below matter/link confuses you :
links are not allowed on posts now,,so you might want to look at my reply to the post dated on 2006-10-11, posted by Ritu, with subject : Hetal - diet for 6month old baby. its in feeding board/this board only....just go to prev message archives and you should be able to get the history.

also go thru the message of worried mom, just below yours,,it has the link for 7month old,,look into it,,you will find the order in which vegies/fruits are to be introduced,,,

and all this should help !

6months old should take as below :
1. Breast milk: on demand
OR Iron-fortified formula: 4-5 feedings of 6-8 ounces each
2.Infant cereal: 4-8 tablespoons, mixed
Infant juice: 2-4 ounces (offer diluted with water only and from cup or sippy or spoon,1/4 - 1/2 cup)
3.Fruits :2-4 tablespoons, twice daily
4. vegetables : 2-4 tablespoons, twice daily
some other tips :
1. Start with pureed fruits and vegetables. offer strained until 9months atleast..Start with single, plain choices without any type of mixing of tapioca or ne starch or ne seasonings or sugar,,.
Don' t serve fruit \" desserts.\" as of now,,its not required.

For cereals, start her on barley, after you start your baby on spinach, and other greens/juices/fibr in short..barley should be the last tthing you will be offering in single grain selectives...!

good luck
