Trying since long:Pls. help ?s about IVF/PGD in India

Hi,

My name is Sathya. I am a silent visitor of this forum. I am 30 yrs old and my DH is 33. We have been married for 7 years. We’ve been trying ttc for 4 yrs. I am diagnosed with balanced translocation. It’s a chromosomal abnormality which causes recurrent miscarriages (I have had 4 painful, early miscarriages).

I currently live in the USA. My OBGYN suggested me to either go for donor egg and IVF or to go for PGD (pre-implantation genetic diagnosis) and IVF. Our insurance doesn’t cover either one. It costs about $20,000 per cycle. I am thinking of going to India and do PGD and IVF.
• Can any of you suggest me a good IVF hospitals or clinics (with PGD facility) in Chennai?
• How much does it usually cost for IVF? And PGD?
• After the IVF procedure (around 4 months in to pregnancy), will the hospital allow me to come back to US for delivery?

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

God bless you all.
Love,
Sathya

Hi Sathya,

Sorry to hear about your losses. I too had 2 miscarriages within 9 months. the last one was in April 2005. Since then I haven't been able to conceive since then. Infact in my case doctors haven't given me any specific reason for my losses or my inability to conceive. Myself and my DH were also thinking about IVF. We are in the same boat as you are, our insurance doesn't cover any of these procedures, so we were thinking about going to India.

If you can forward me any information you might have collected so far for IVF in India I would really appreciate.. By the way what is PGD procedure?

Hi Purvi,
The reason for my repeated miscarriages is chromosom abnormality that is balanced translocation.
PGD is pre implantation genetic diagnosis. This is done before IVF procedure. They do a embryo biopsy and select the chromosom w/o any abnormalities and use those embryos for conception thru IVF.

I am sorry about your losses. I know exactly how you feel and what you are going thru. Did you guys go for blood test (Karyotype)? Did you do any kind of testing to know the reason for your losses?

God Bless,
Sathya

Hi Sathya,
I'm so sorry for ur losses. I agree PGD seems to be thw way to go for you unless u are ready for donor egg. I too have had 3 mcs in 9 months all before 8 weeks (one after seeing the hb). However I have other reasons for my losses, low blood suplly to the uterus and MTHFR gene mutations. Any way if you go to babycenter(dor)com/bbs you will find a lot of women who have done PGD here in the US. You can ask them any questions. I know u'd like to do this in india for cost reasons but make sure which ever doctor/clinic u chose is equipped very well to do PGD. PGD is very complex and requires higly skilled doctors to perform. Also in the US the good infertilioty clinics do offer some shared risk programs that help financially. Of course the clinic decides which candidate is eligible for the program depending on the case.
Anyway Good luck and remember u will have a baby soon.
