Hetal replied. at first, i will not recmnd you giving solids at 4.5months unless otherwise your dr has asked you specifically that your child needs solids other thn bm or formula..as far as you can supply her good bm,,give her that !!!
how you know your child is ready for solids :
1. your child sits unsupportedly or can hold his neck straight !
OR your child is able to pull himself in upward direction !
2. when his wght seems to be decreasing or is constant in one whole month, in subsequent 4 weeks,,,inspite of drinking feeds or formula or bm,,and still she seems to b hungry, wild or hysterical,,,has disturbed sleep even after full feeds of formula.,..or is not interested in liquid diets !!!!!!!!!!
3. whn child is taking enough feeds of formula but he looks tired, fatigue or seems to be not interstd much in activities like playing, holding toys and developmnts are affected due to lack of nutrition,,,vitality on face is missing !!
so aftr all this,,make sure that your child needs solids first,,thn only plan to give,,or rather wait for your dr to tell you that he really needs solids !!!
i can help you only when your child is ready otherwise not !
however, if you are still interested,,inspite of all this,,,here is something that can help you plan hr diet from 4.5montths onwards :
week 1 : offer whole moong water.check for responses..one time only. in afternoons between feeds.the texture of moong water will be watery ! no salt or nething has to be added,,if you want you can add a pinch of hing while boiling the whole moong itself.
week 2 : start boiled apple (boil apple with skin, mash it, strain it and offer watery texture first),,
offer this as lunch.amt etc i will write at end.
by the time you will give these 2, your baby will be 5months.
week 3 : introduce raagi soup as lunch time. check for raagi recipes in below posts :
avoid offerng jaggery or sugar,,offer plain raagi and i have heard from other memberrs that offering the sprouted raagi often makes it easy to digest...you can check the posts that have subject \" raagi\" and you will know other tips as well.
he will be 5months 1 week.
his intakes of food/solids and bm or formula will be :
Infant cereal///you are not givng this so replace raagi soup or malt instead : 4–8 tablespoons,
mixed Infant juice////you have already introduced apple so offer apple juice and alternately offer him whole moong water: 2–4 ounces (1/4th to 1/2 cup, from cup only,introduce soft spout sippy cup or glass or spoon is fine..gv the juice diluted like strained fruit pulp plus water or fruit juice 1: water 2,3,4,,as pref by baby and that baby is not showing ne refluxes)
Breast milk: on demand OR Iron-fortified formula: 4–5 feedings of 6–8 ounces each,,your baby should be getting in 24 hours...
please note its too early for 5mnth old to replace the quantity of milk with respect to filling of solids...breastmilk or formula HAS to be important or let me say PRIMARY food of your baby until atleast first 6months of his life..and thn until 9months, you cant expect your baby to welcome solids at ne or all meals.

if you think that in 2-3days,,if your baby is having loose motions thn replace pears with ripe banana and offer sweet potato...check how his responses are esp with raagi soup/malt,,pears.m telling you this mostly because your baby is on bm and not on formula !!! there are chances that he might be having enough liquids...so if that happens, introduce the next vegie or fruit and leave the pears or fiber fruit or vegie for a day or so and watch him !
he will be 5months 3weeks.
week 6 : offer him ne yellow vegetable. like winter squash,squash,,or tender sweet corn fresh(boiled/pressure cooked, mashed and strained and well pureed),,,
offer this along with whole moong water,,during afternoons....
he will be 5mnths, 4th week,,and ready for rice cereal on 6th month !
from 6months onwards,,offer him rice cereal/iron fortified cereal and then once he is comfortable with rice cereal(check for constipation probs,,so avoid offerng with bm or formula,,offer with pear puree in the morning instead ! ),,
and you can plan his diet for the other stuffs...
