Trying since long:Archie- eagerly waiting for ur advise..

Hi Archie,

Thanks for answering my earlier questions.I am trying to conceive, but I am getting period every 75-80 days now since Jan '06. Before that it was evry 40-45 days.. I saw 2 OB/GYNs within last 2 months. As I mentioned before, I took all the tests including ultrasound, papsmear, MRI and blood tests. All the tests are normal. My Prolactin level is 26 and the normal level stated in the lab report is 24. I have facial hair problem and my weight is 148 lbs. My first Dr. said my prolactin level is high, so that might be causing the delay in period. so prescribed parlodel 250 mg (1 tab daily). I am taking that now.
I just came back now from my second dr. She said from my sysmptoms like facial hair, period delay and weight are the sysmptoms of PCOS even though there is no cyst in the ovaries and blood tests are normal. She just gave me the prescription for metformin. She told me to take 1 tab at night and if there is no side effects then gradually increase the dose within 2 weeks to 2 tabs in the morning and 2 at night. She also told me to stop taking parlodel.

So I am kind of confused now... Do I have PCOS? What I will have to do? Is metformin 2000 mg per day too high? How long i will have to take this to get ovulated regulary? should I stop taking parlodel? My test results are listed below...

DHEA-SO4 : 262 ug/dl
FSH: 7.25 mIU/ml
LH: 16.49 miU/ml
Prolactin:26 ng/ml
Testosterone, Total: 67.1 ng/dl
Testosterone, free: 2.3 pg/ml
TSH: 3.554 uIU/ml
Glucose, Fasting: 94 MG/dl
Hemoglobin Alc: 5.3 %
Average whole blood glucose: 99 mg/dl
Insulin: 27.3 mIU/L

Milli,
symptoms of hirsutism, an abonormal hair growth can be due to elevated progesterone which in itself can affect ovulation.

your prolactin too can contribute.

I did suspect your case to be PCOS but could not be confident to judge based on e-letter. Metformin is the ultimate choice for this. If this drug alone does not make trick then you might need Clomid in combination with Metformin.

To continue or not with prolactin treatment is your choice. I would have seen first whether or not prolactin alone was interfering ouvlation and would have known this in a 2-3 months time from the treatment for the same. If that did not work then Metformin, but now it's your choice which of the two Dr. you would like to follow.
