Name: Hetal
with rsv, pssbilties of bronchiolites as well pneumonia,,are quite higher and expected ! most kids with rsv, get one of these in most cases,,
since there is no family history of ne asthma, allergies or freq colds or coughs, there are 5/10 possbilties that your baby will not be prone to these in future,,the rest 50% psbilities are because of baby own
immune system and often it is expectd that once kids go above 2-5years,,thr allergy, asthma triggerng issues get solved as the body matures...
all you can do is to ensure your child gets healthy environment with fresh atmoshphere and a healthy lifestyle,,ofcourse followed by a
healthy diet full of nutrients that will build her body to fight ne such triggrs,,,
now about your worries and question,,this is not my expertise but i will try my best to help you upto my highest reach,,and here goes your queries:
1.how long does it takes for her to cure completely ?
considering that there is no history of allergy/asthma or wheezng or ne such respiratrrry, nasal or sinus problems,,after the medication is over,,a healthy normal child is expected to recover by 1 week.
this is a very common virus that virtually all children have been infected by rsv atleast once,,by the time they are of age 3,,..
mostly kids are prone to it, during winter months.
now your worry part : worry only if your dr is concered. please note that even though the recovery from rsv is expected to be 1week,,the
respiratory symptoms that you mentioned,,,may last for more than a week or couple and sometimes the cough goes beyond 2 weeks ! it
might even lead to ear infection and all this is part of it and dont be surprised or get worried/panic,, if it happens ! just talk to your dr and a dose of antibiotic will help..only iff it occurs,,,make sure to try your level best from your side that it does not occur...
whereever there is mucus deposits or mucus involved all probs related to ent are bound
to happen....
rush to your dr if : fever above 101,continusly not coming down,,thick nasal discharege that is yellwish, green or gray,,cough is severe and
it produces thick yellw, green or gray mucus,,ne chest pain,,difficulty in breating, rapid breathng even whe your child is not running
around or is not stimulated or during sleep,,ne appearance of bluish, greyish colour on lips, skin or finger nails and your child seems to be dull and not responding to you like before,,,thn without fail,,rush him to dr at once !
2.about the prevention steps at home :
--2.1. keep the air temperature between 70-75f so that the air is not dried out,,,this will avoid coughng and congestion or dry nasals..and
will also help recover better !
--2.2. avoid ne humidifiers or mist or vapour treatments,,a recent study shows that for rsv,,it was not doing ne good...such treatments
help only for normal colds, coughs and if the cold or cough is likely to be bacterial infection,,rsv is pure viral so this wont do ne good !
--2.3.. keep the nasal passages clean with continuous suctionng of mucus as and when needed..this will help him recover better..when
stuffed badly, you can use infant saline drops or ask your dr for some
nasal spray,,its nothing but a salt water drops,,,they will help.
--2.4..make sure to keep your child well hydrated...check the below links on how to prevent freq cold, coughs, congestions,,and it will also guide you about diet and foods to offer,,make sure to make a note of your child age before you offer nething...i have spcifically mentioned diet acc to child age and so dont overdo or experiment it unless your child is of same age or let me say,,avoid such foods.the below links also have some links that will help you eliminate all the
air borne allergies, chemical allergies,,that might trigger ne cold or cough attacks,,, :
