Feeding:Gerber food Q

After aring so much praise abt gerber food, I got a bottle of Gerber food stage 2 - carrot - first time for my baby from a renowned store in Delhi.

I tasted it before giving to baby, it was awful!

The basic taste is bland ... like carrots. But there is an associatd aroma/taste which seems different (doesnt seem to be spoiled though) and i dint like it. The product was not old too.

is this normal for gerber foods to taste awful like that?

If you are able to provide fresh food, then it is better. I live in US but gave Gerber only during travel. Otherwise only used fresh home cooked food tastes best.
