I had a cesariun abt 1.5 months back. I wasn't able to feed for first 2 days due to lot of pain n felt milk was not being produced..So the baby was on \";dextrose\"; given by the hospital nurse ..from 3rd day, i started getting milk, but he wasn't able ot latch on..he would come to my breast n start crying very very loud..which would upset me a lot too n would result in me weeping along wiht him ..i started pumping milk n feeding him with a bowl n spoon ..this went on for 5 days in hospital..once i came back home,i applied honey onto my breasts n tried to feed him n he started sucking ..he had milk from me this way for hardly 2 days ..after which he cought Cold n his nose was blocked so much tht he just coudn't suck n we had to take him to doctor n restored back to the older way of feeding with bowl n spoon..one night was very bad,when he wept a lot..n we switched to bottle feed ...since then he completely refuses to latch on to me..whereas drinks happily from the bottle..we also had to start formula since i couldn't pump enough evrytime to give via bottle n my milk supply started reducing as he hasn't sucked for so long..i came across this site recently..if sm one knows a solution to this, pleassssssssse help me..i kno it's already 1.5 months...but i feel very guilty..i've been trying several times everyday but all in vain....i even showed the doc n she said all is fine with me n him..n it's just tht he finds sucking thro' bottle much easier n so is refusing to get bk to u..:( smone pls help me..

this is Ria from delhi. My son was born on 2aug 2005. Though it was a normal delivery, my baby had a fast heart beat due to which the docs kept him in nursery for 2 days. I faced the same problem - exactly same. When I read your experience it seemed you know all that i suffered. He totally refused to take milk from my breast. It was so heartbreaking the way he cried the moment I brought him close to my breast. Listened to all sorts of things from the old ladies in relation - \";doodh aata nahi hoga\";, \";tu koshish hi nahi karti\";, \";kahi baby ko tere mei se smell to nahi aati\";. I used to cry like hell. I pumped out milk from my breast and gave him in bottle for 40 days - which was not an easy task - asking somebody to hold him whenever he was hungry while I pumping out the milk and making him wait. After that I started on formula - Nan 1. He will be 4 months now. There is so much guilt that I could not breast feed him, though I tried a lot - u would understand. Anyway, now i just pray that the baby ultimately should remain healthy. Some things are just not in your control and in your luck :-)

I too had c-section and i faced the same situation as urs.. my baby is 5 wks old now ...

due to initial pain i gave him formula.. he was happy with the bottle and refused breast completely... he used to cry a lot when i tried to breast feed him..

then went to Lactation Consultant which helped me a lot.. she taught me some tips for latching and holding baby when feeding.. that worked for me.. i was not having enuf milk and sometimes used to pump and bottle feed the baby.. but she said i need to avoid bottle as much as possible.

for the past 1 wk i completely breastfeed him (ofcourse hard way to teach the baby) 1 or 2 times i give him breastmilk in bottle...

keep trying.. btw, where r u putup.. if u r in USA u call ur hospital to get a apt with the LC.. they will help u in succeeding with breastfeeding..
