Hi,
This maybe a different question but iam in confusion.
i was working in a software company in india. then my hubby got a job abroad (he is into engineering)
We came abroad and now its now 2 yrs, now my hubby feels he wants to go for higher studies,
he holds a diploma now. he wants to do engineering degree as UG. he says he will do it in regular college only and not as part time. so he says he needs a break for 3.5 yrs from earning for family and asks me to take care.
actually iam a fresher out of college and was working only for an yr and quit and now its been 2 yrs break for me from my career.
Iam afraid that will i get a gud job to support my family. at present we r 2 only.
But my hubby sends money to my in-laws per month from here.
one more issue is that what he says is here in abroad they wont accept indian diploma for doing higher education, i donno whether its true or not. he wants to go back to india now so that i will work and he wil study,
i donno whether this will work out. Moreover he has 8 yrs experience in working in engineering industry already. but now if he breaks his career will it gud for him to get a job later?
iam much confused, being a home maker for 2 yrs i donno whether i can shine or not.
ALso later he says he wants to get a job in teaching line in engineering. will he be earning the same as in industry if he goes to a teaching career.
After being out life has improved here and i say i dont want to go back but he wants to.
he says he can do hid higher studies only in india as they wont accept here. is it true?
do anyone have idea on this?
pls help iam in more confusion.

I got my degrees from India evaluated by Foreign Credential Evaluation, Inc. They are based in Atlanta, GA. You can find them on the net.

Check out the colleges / universities (from their website) in your city to find out which courses are being there and which one might be appropriate for your husband.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions...

Just some thoughts -

1) What subject is he planning to major in? Because as far as I know, most engg colleges in India have an age limit (at least it was there when I was there about 10 yrs back). Has he applied and got admission in some college in India?

2) About studying in US - what you can do is first find out what his diploma is equivalent to in terms of US degrees. Get a foreign credential evaluation done. You can check on the net or if you really want a specific agency, I can dig out the place from where I got mine done.

Meanwhile you can check out from a few colleges in US about what their admission requirements are. Usually, if you plan to do an undergrad, then Indian class 12th is enough. If your husband has done a diploma, then they might even give educational credit for a few courses (based of course on the foreign credential evaluation).

3) Financial Strength of your family - Studying in US is expensive. Specially in undergrad. As an immigrant, you do not get much financial aid (unlike in the Masters programs). Check out the fees of a few programs - just to get an idea.

Studying in India will be much cheaper comparatively.

4) Job prospects after completing his degree - the best way to find that out is to check out the job offers that the last batch of students received in the college your husband is interested in. Sometimes this info is given in the college website..like what all companies had offered jobs last year and the salary offered. Or you can contact the admissions office of a college and find out from there.

5) Regardless of whether your husband joins a univ or not, it would be good to be financially independent. So why don' t you start looking for a job? All of us are apprehensive in the beginning...its perfectly natural...update your resume and then look up job ads and find out which of yr skills is in demand..brush up on those...and start applying.

6) Tell your husband to start saving for his future studies..and to give you time to find a job and see if you are comfortable with it.

7) Listen to your husband and understand his dreams. It might be something he really, really wants to do...there is nothing wrong in taking a break from work and going in for higher studies for a few years.

Assuming of course there is no economic hardship while he is studying.

8) But you guys really need to discuss this thoroughly between the two of you. And what it means for your married life (you might have to postpone having kids for instance). And only then take a decision. Remember to discuss everything in a supportive manner however.

give me the EMAIL add of the specific agency so that we can come to a decision.
the course is Electronics and electrical engineering. ALso he has 10 yrs experience in engineering field.
he is 30 yrs old now.
waiting for ur reply.
