Parents of Preschoolers  Discussion Forum

Hi,

I plan to start a library for young children (ages 0 to 7). I also wish to host periodical events (story-telling/book-reading) for them. This is mainly to encourage a reading habit.

Any interest/suggestions/ideas welcome!

I think that is a very good idea. If you happen to stay in an apt complex, things shd be easier. If not, you could always find someone to put up ur details in the notice board in the clubhouse/common area.
Suggestions -
1) Make a presence on the web about it. I know many people search for such info on the web. Need not be a full blown website, even a blog page with the details is good. this will be one place where ppl can get to know of the latest happening, current and planned events...etc
2) Provide the facility on-call (if possible)
3) Have a small place where kids can come with parents and read at the library and go and not necessarily borrow them - fix some timing for this. (if possible)
4) Even if you dont start with many books, make sure you do some research and find out the most popular ones and have them in your collection
5) Think ahead of a way to make sure you get the books back. Like any other library.. one time registration amount, per day charge... etc Maybe also think of something innovative to make sure you get the books back in time
6) I like the periodic event part the most! I would love to send my son if I had stayed anywhere nearby :)
5) Get feedback, speak and keep in touch with your patrons.
