Hi ,
My son is 18 months. Two days ago, he vomitted in his sleep after having his night feed of milk and sleeping. he vomitted 4-5 times in the night - mucousy water vomit - not much food content. He'd eaten well throughout the day. Doc has adviced me to give no antibiotic now - only domstal and peptidine . He passed motion once the next day - mostly solid , with some water content but it was smelling bad - I hope it's not a stomach infection.
I just had a few questions on what might have caused this and how I can prevent it ?
1) Monsoon - we give him mineral water ( Kinley ) and even use it for cooking his food. The only tap water he gets is from our rasam/sambar which is anyway boiled aquaguard water. Is it advisable to boil mineral water ?
2) Milk - during monsoons, I have heard people saying milk quality varies. Is this true ? I live in CHennai and use aavin milk
3) We are recently beginning to try giving him unmashed food - soft paratha , hand mashed rice. My MIL feels if he's swallowing his food without chewing , it will cause indigestion. he has 16 teeth !! ( including big teeth - molars ?) . Are parathas too heavy for 18 mos old ( personally I don't think so )
4) The other change in his diet was addition of red pumpkin and corn. are these likely to cause indigestion ?
Thanks for your inputs ,
Minka

Hetal replied. check on milk ! other than that, yes indigestion is quite a problem for vomitng, upto 2 years..not because of the teeth but because they dont chew well.and most of the times they dont like to chew well !
parathas are not heavy, but when not chewed, might have caused indigestion,,,
other reason could be overstimilation or hyperactivity just after meals or drinking milk,,leads to stomach upset..
too much of citrus juices might lead to stomach reflux which might give nausea feel and kids are very sensitive to these naausea..
red pumpkin or corn cant be the reason of indigestion,,infact pumpkin is the remedy for stomach upset !
but corn dpnding on variety you have offerd, could be cause of indigestion..unless otherwise its fresh baby corn or frozen baby corn..
m not sure about corn in india,,in US, most of the times, its sold tender...
mineral water doesnt require boiling,,it can be given as it is..you can boil tap water and store it to cool and then give that water...rest all is fine,,as far as its not stomach infection, just make sure to prevent him from getting cold chills or fever..if fever strikes in this condition, he might get a stomach flu or viral.
right now, since he is not good with stomach,,and his esophageal passge will be tender because of vomits,,so offer your child foods that are COOL in temperature, avoid warm foods,,avoid citrus(you can give mosambi only, diluted 1:1 water, cool),,offer light diet as possible so that his body is able to settle earliest..fuds like khichadi(tadka of crused jeera, avoid mustrd for a while),,some hing and curry leaves,,and just turmeric,,,avoid chilli,,you can add cumin-corinader,salt etc,,
keep his feet, chest, head covered, and make sure he does not catch fever or cold..after many vomitting episodes, often kids get cold and mild fever or sometimes ear infection dpnding on the severity of vomittng,,so make sure to take care from now itself..
limit one fibr in one day, and not more is required,,limit dairy or cheese,,milk feeds are fine,,but add in a lil turmeric to his milk,,this will give his stomach an effect of antioxidant...
thats all you can do,,whatever dr has adviced, offer accordngly...
good luck !
