Feeding:recipes for my 11 month old baby- to gain weight

Hi,

My 11 month old baby has been overall a good eater and also readily experiments with new foods. However lately he is distracted a lot in playing and it has become very difficult to make him sit in his higchair and eat.

We usually try to give him dal and rice, kichdi, upma with veggies, roti and dal. along with some gerber veggies and fruit bottles. I wanted to know what should be the consumption of an 11 month old baby in terms of quantity.

On our last visit to his pediatrician she told me that he is becoming underweight and needs to eat more and try to gain some weight.
He weighs 18.5 lbs, and is 30 inches tall.

He is a very happy baby and is a fast learner so i think he is probably eating enough for his appetite. Do baby's eat less around this age when they are learning to do new stuff, and also teething.?

Can some one give me ideas on new recipes that i can make for him so he is not bored having the same stuff. and also something that can help him gain weight.

Hi Namrata,
You can keep good diet food but do not keep food which has high calories because having health conscious is very important and you have to make them learn also.

Hi Namrata,
Receipes must be light weight and easily digestible for baby. And do remember after preparing the chart once you consult to the doctor.

Hi Namrata,
Try to put food which are rich in calories so that there would not be any problem for you.It is better to give some dry fruits for your baby to gain weight.

Hi Namrata,
You can keep any food for your baby.So what ever you keep must contain lot of proteins and vitamins in it.You can keep fruits and make baby to drink juices a lot which is useful in all ways.

Hello Namrata,
It would be better you can ask the doctor for such list they would give you with the list and you can feed the baby with what ever you want and take care of health also,I wish you would take proper decision.

Hi Hetal

Thanks for replying. My sons doctor was not very much concerned about his weight, she was saying that he had dropped from 25 percentile to 15 percentile in weight which is not good and that i should try to feed him more or give him foods that will help him gain more weight. But at the same time my son is quite tall for his age, and is in the 80th percentile for height.. so he seems much leaner since he is tall for his age. My husband has always been lean and tall so i guess a little of that might be genetic.

I was concerned since i dont know how to give him enough nutrition during the days he is not eating properly.. soometimes it is because of teething, or cold or sometimes he is just tooo playful to worry about eating.

Usually his schedule is
1 Milk when he wakes up around (5-6 oz)
2 Has multi grain or oatmeal cereal with mashed banana or sheera or some other snack around 10 am - quantities are approx half a bowl (small)

3. Around 2-3 oz of milk just before sleeping at 11.30

4. Lunch around 1-1.30 he has any one of the following dal and rice or kichdi or roti and dal, soups, sometimes accompanied with buttermilk or yogurt.

5.has 1 or 2 bottles of gerber food. - evening snack - 5.00 pm

6. Has rice cereal around 7- 7.30

7. Milk around 6 oz at bedtime. 8.30-9

so overall he accepts any new taste and is not fussy about trying.

I will check your other food ideas from your other posts

since your dr is concernd about your baby wght,,i will be further interrstd in knowing about his current schedule..
until then,,your ques about baby apetite..
expect lack of apetite at the maturing stages,,of which 11months/12months is one of them...other is teething,,yes,,it matters alot..some babies like mine will go on either fasting or sometimes total milk diet and sometimes messing around her schedules...
please the check the post tht i psted to priya, with subject food ideas, and you will get some ideas therein for 11months old...
offer your baby proteins, yogurt,,multigrains, introduce your baby to other wheat products like pastas, stuffed parathas with curd,,cracked wheat khichadi,,pancakes with fruits,,
see his acceptance,,if he doesnt accepts, shows ne kind of digestn constipation issues,,you might want to try after 1 year,...
this is just the right age for restlessness so bear with it. give him tiny fruits like grapes, lil toys or chopped roti pieces to play with when he is on highchair,,to make him busy,,offer him colourrs in his diet,to make him feel interested,,let him peep into the food that he is eatin,,,appearance does matter...change the shape of roti, cut the upma by setting it, in diff shapes with cookie cutters or so,,to make him get interested in eating it ! offer various shapes pastas,,they come in diff vegie flavours/colours that are multigrain or wholegrain,,kids njoy playing with them,,,
offer him minimeals, see if that works for him..other ideas you will get in priya post..take care, good luck !
