Feeding:Cow's milk in India

My daughter is eleven and half months old and I have just introduced cow's milk here in America. She loves to drink it. As I am going to India for 3 weeks, I wanted to know if it was safe to give her cow's milk there or should I avoid it completely

same thing happened to my friend's son when she visited India. And if it were less, it is today's news that mother-dairy brand milk could not pass FDA test and is being further examined!

Whenever my friend visits india, she just doesnt give milk to her son (now 4 yrs). She says its ok for a month, she supports with other calcium rich things or sometimes not even that, just on sabji-roti whenever he is hungry.

Hi Roopa - I read your remark about mother dairy not getting the FDA certification in India. To gentle remind to you and pls do not get offended. I know for sure - kids protection is first priority for any mother and i am a mother of 10 months old son and i have also young mothers working with me. to be frank enough we only give that to our children out here. we dont wait for any FDA certification. M sure you wld have also had the same milk. Kids not able to withstand can always told in a diff manner (anything new introduced to kid always leads to stomach upset) and not in such a derrogative terms of condemning a brand. Mother dairy is co-operative unit run by many farmers.

Following is proven study and comparison report of human's milk and cows milk. Formula are prepared to some extent of mothers milk

Cow's milk has three times more ash content than in human milk & because of the lesser capacity of the infant's kidney to excrete wastes, the high ash content of cow's milk may prevent too high a solute load, which may cause diarrhoea
It has higher contents of calcium, phosphorus Na & K. Some healthy infants fed cow's milk have a syndrome of convulsion known as neonatal tetany about the sixth day of life. This is believed to be due to high blood phosphorus level

Subject:  May cause loose motions

Hi ,

Some of my friends visiting India from US said their kid got loose motions if they switched to cow's milk here. My best bet would be to continue formula here and use cow's milk in cooking recipes like halwa or something ( less quantity than drinking ) and see how it goes.

I took my 17 month old to Dubai for 2 weeks and tried giving him the 3% fat pasteurized milk there and found it caused him a little loose motions so I cut back on the cow's milk and use formula for milk feeds and used cow's milk only for cooking like making his ragi porridge.

Perhaps you can swicth to cow's milk in US after you return from India
