Hi,
i moved to US lost year from Bangalore,
my daughter is 4 and half years . At present she is not going to any school and she will start her school from this september. After coming here she became very shy and she is not communicating well with other kids and strangers. we are speaking our mother tongue and English in the house. Her pronunciation is also not good for her age. she is also having thumb sucking habit despite my efforts to stop it. Please help me with your advices.
thank you,
uma

Hello Uma,

I also am a mother of a 4 1/2 year old. My little girl's birthday is in August; so, she'll be 5 soon.

I think it's quite normal for children this age to go through shyness. Sometimes, it only lasts a little while and they tend to grow out of it slowly once they enter school and make lots of friends.

Are you sending her to Kindergarten this year?

Here are a few things you may want to do to for your daughter...
-once or twice a week, take her to the local public library and borrow a couple of books for her to enjoy and you read them to her.

-at many libraries, they offer story time for children of young ages; check that out and try to take her.

*By taking her to the library, you will be bringing her around other children and that could eventually be something she enjoys a lot.

As far as thumb sucking, you wll find that she will begin playing with other kids and most of the time, she'll forget about sucking her thumb. I would say in most cases, it will pass with time.

It's a big transition moving to a new place, meeting new people. So, it's very normal for you daughter to be shy.

Just try to work with her on pronunciation...

Everything will come around and work out fine...

:-)

Keep me update,
Have a Great Day!

Nina

RE:Shyness right or wrong?
According to me you should take your child to a counselor and ask her what is the exact problem as this is not common and you should get into it as soon as possible and understand the real reason behind the same, please do not ignore this its a request.... - Anaida [View Message]
RE:Shyness right or wrong?
Hello dear this is really nothing to worry as its very common and you should not take this matter as a big concern as kids at this age are normally shy and they do not like meeting new people infact they want only their friends and all with them.... - Anita [View Message]

RE:Shyness right or wrong?
Hey dear this is ok and you should not think so much as its very young age and you should not think in that way as i am sure she will develop more as the age passes and you will see the difference very soon so please do not worry at all and relax.... - Anu [View Message]
