hi ! i wanted some tips regarding my 5 mnth old son! he was born 3 weeks early but was a full term baby. now he likes to be fed every 21/2-3 hrs. and since i get tired nursing him so often i thought of bottlefeeding my bm which i pump and give him as he takes it better and quicker. now my flow is decreasing so i add 3 oz of my bm and 2 oz of formula and give him. i personally feel 5 oz at 5 mnths is less qty he is feeding on but i have tried he only takes about 4 1/2 oz and that's it. i wish to start solids later than 6mnths. is this normal ? i mean can i give him more calories thru my milk to sustain him for longer time ! what do i eat to increase my flow ! i am a vegetarian and tried eating eggs to get iron in my diet but noticed he gets some skin eczema becoz of it so i am avoiding it ! any ideas pl ! thanks a ton for reading !

Hetal replied. Breast milk: on demand
OR Iron-fortified formula: 4–5 feedings of 6–8 ounces each...however, you have to consider that an oz more or a bit less is just fine..you cant expect your baby to complete the feed,,,count the total 24 hour feeds.
this is pretty normal,,sometimes babies take less and sometimesmore..
about gviing more calories by milk, yes you can provided you take enough rest and follow some tips below :

also note that, these tips are mostly used by various culture and there is no experimental evidence of its working,,however,it depends on mothers body totally as to how his body is able to cope along with the tips that you are using...
since your baby was born 3 weeks early but medically has been declared as full term baby,, it does not give ne impact. had it been that medically your dr would have declared your baby as premature,,then only there is a possibility that he is not doing well..otherwise, there are no concerns at all.
you are getting tired, so it explains that bf is becoming hard for you,,check my post in breastfeeding to kwazi and post by ruby named is this true,,you will know the reasons how a mothers milk dwindles with stress and other aspects..
other than, there is nothing i see to worry about,,whats his birth wieght and current weight,,what are his developments ?? and i would say, if his birth weight is going steady, i wil not recommend you to start solids,,unless he is going underweight and lagging behind in his development...

hi ! thanks a bunch for reading the mail. well about my son's weight. he was around 7pounds when he was born and now he is alittle over 15 pounds. he gets excited to hold things, can hold his head nicely, has started to roll to one side yet but otherwise smiles and looks around and one thing he seems tobe always looking for is me - to drink milk from. hope u got my hint. he wants to latch on all the time and makes the sucking face as if just ready to start. i lie down and nurse him at night so proabably that has given him this habbit! he's not a 4-5hrs. at a stretch sleeper but what to do. i try to give him only formula as his last feed before bed ! he sleeps round 8. and is ready to start the day by 7 am. he takes 4 hrs of nap total in a day. does all this sound ok. i mean i just feel something is wrong somewhere. i feel him intake at one time is less for his age. he only takes 4- 41/2oz at a time where as he should be taking 6-8oz. ha na ? i'll wait eagerly for some input from your side ! thanks ! again !
