Hetal,
Thanks for replying to my earlier post. You had mentioned Iron fortified cereals to be given - what are they ?
I am in India and I am aware of the Cerelac and Nestum brands. I am giving Ragi once a day to my 9 month (completed) old son. Is this enough ?

Also, I saw a lots of posts regarding Sweet potato. How do you give it ? Is it a good source of Iron ?

regards,
Savithri

i m not aware of the brands in india as far as iron fortified cereals,,but look at the nutrional value,,generally its expected to give per serving of approx 1/4th cup cereal with 1/4th cup milk,,some 60% of iron and mostly has an ingrediant called \" electrolytic iron\" ...
if you have these,,,its often iron fortified...
cows milk is low or almost null in iron so its better to give these cereals to provide enough iron to babies upto 24months...until 24months, babies try new foods and establish their flavours,so these cereals provide them with enough iron and other goodies...
ragi is great source of iron, since you are giving it already.some 100gms has 3.9mgs of iron, which is good !

abt sweet potato, give it boiled, give it in boiled and saute with some ghee and cardamom(halwa-if milk is added/sheera-if nothing else is added),,give it in form of kheer,,make boiled chunks, throw them in boiling milk,,a great but heavy diet ! make sure you dont give much :)
if you see i hv adviced sweet potato to replace potato mostly in cases where weight was the concern and constipation was the other...sweet potato is high in fiber,,below are the some comparative nutrional values of potato n sweet potato,,so suit yourself !
