Hi
I have 4 month old daughter. I stay in india. She is not taking enough milk now a days. She is not in BM. Around 10 days back she used to take around 500 ml of milk for a day now for last 10 days, she is taking only 300 ml. She will drink formula milk for a minutes and she will start crying loudly and will refuse to drink anything.
My wife is very strong in giving her cereals. She also is thinkign that the baby will not be liking the taste of the Formula milk. I am not very positive on that. I am telling her to wait for a month to introduce cereals. Please advise me, whether it is ok to start with cereals or anything else.

Hetal replied. if your baby intake of formula has decreased after starting solids,,its obvious you cant expect her to drink just like before !
your baby is feeling heavy on her stomach because of solids and then too much feed of formula. please consult your dr about starting solids. if i were you, i would take my wife to my dr and let her hear whats going on..
and since your baby was drinking good formula before, and now that she has stopped,it doesnt mean that your baby is not liking the formula ! however, it might be the case that the formula if she has just started to drink, she might have had abit more than her own apetite(babies do that, its normal,,),,coz of growth spurt, and because formula was a new food for her, she ended up feeling heavy or may be gassy sometimes,,so the result is cry !
baby is ready for solids mostly when baby has not reached developments/growth/as desired by your dr during 4th month onwards..he will also check your baby weight, her total growth, height, head circumfernce,,her other potty and pee schedules, and then considering all these factors one is adviced to start solids ! also it includes waking up frequently at night for feeds, feeling hungry or vitality and the healthy look in the baby is missing..or your baby is underweight !
its not hard and fast rule to start solids at 4months,even if u are in india, you will be surprised to know that new dr are advicing to start solids from 6months onwards,,which is best in interest of baby and his own digestive abilities or to prevent allergies to various foods..
however,it completely dpends on baby to show interest in other foods than formula or bm,,,some babies have welcomed it and want to eat more !
however, what your wife feels about starting solids is the common feel that most women have that since baby is not getting enough bm and is on formula,,,its better to start with solids which is a natural source of nutrients than formula,,this understanding to some extent is acceptable,,, but one has to understand baby acceptance level as well..
best thing to do in your case, take your baby to dr, and let dr be the best person to judge about the solids,,,,ask in front of your wife to your dr clearly, that this is what is going on, and that you are interested to know if you can start solids right now or not,if you dr says YOU CAN, ask him again, what do you recommend !! most of the times,, answers between these 2 are not same !! thats y m telling,,and then go by your dr recommendations!! rather than what you can do !!
it will solve all the problems and you wont have to worry about giving a fight with your wife sentiments !
so good luck !

Hi Hetal
Thanks for the message. I will check with my doc. Actually i keep reading these posts quite often and i found it is good or ok to start solids and cereals after 5+ months. Infact my doc also casually said that he will recommend solids after 6 months only.
My daughter is very active, she keeps playing or doing some sounds daily. She is on Formula milk since her 2 month (DULAC Step 1). Her weight also looks ok, it around 6.00 kgs. Now for last 10 days she is showing a dislike for that formula milk. She will cry for hunger and when my wife gives her milk she will drink around 30 - 40 ml and will then stop drinking. Then again she will not drink for around 3-4 hrs.
Thanks, i will check up with doctor.
