Just wanted to say thanks for many helpful tips. Our baby had a peculiar sleeping pattern. But following your advice we started massage and bath at bedtime. Things are getting good at home now.
My daughter is currently 2 months old. I express and bottle feed during the day and formula feed during the night.
I am concerned that currently she takes only 3Oz formula before bed around 10PM and sometimes she sleeps through the night and gets up only around 7 or 8 AM for another feed. She does not ask for feed in between. Is it normal ?? Should I be feeding her even when she does not ask ?
Also, want to know till when I should be following feed calculation formula i.e. ( baby weight * 150 / no of feeds) = x ml milk each feed.
My daughter currently weighs 5.8kg. as per feed formula she should be taking around 145 ml each feed (assuming 6 feeds a day). But she does not take 145 ml each feed. Mostly she takes around 80 - 100 ml each feed and takes only 6 feed during the day.

Hetal replied. 2months old,5.8kgs,,what is her birthweight ????
if your baby has completed 2 month full. she is expected on an average,6 to 8 breastfeeds a day, your calcutions are good for this. and she should be taking 6-10 feeds of 2-4 ounces each day....however these are general guidelines and its not expected for babies to follow them strictly.babies apetite vary individually and this is just an average calculation to make sure your baby is getting enough and is somewhere in that range !!!!
also note that, she will be entering 3rdmonth, so now she will not be infant nemore !! she is baby now. which means that you cannot expect her to keep feeding like infant now ! however, some babies do that, but 3months onwards, its expected for babies to sleep nicely without feeds for upto atleast 4-7hours..1hour here and there is okay ! it doesnt matter.
now that you are giving formula at night, which explains that for your baby,,formula is making him feel quite full at night and because of that, he is not feeling hungry. and yes formula is heavier than bm and most formula fed babies have been reported to sleep well compared to breastfeed babies,,and also their night hours were 8-9hours just like in your case...so its not my worry at all.one hour here and there is ok !!
your baby is taking 3 oz at a time,,thats fine, she is very much in the accepted range....please dont try to feed your baby more than he is able to take. because its not required for him to finish bottle, what matters whether he had milk he wanted to drink and he was full with it !
if your baby is sleeping well, please let her sleep, let her take a good night sleep. now sleep hours for 2-3months old,,14-16 hours in 24hour cycle.you will be further surprised to know like some babies like mine slept for 10-12 hours only in 24 hours,,right from 3rd month onwards...today as well at 1 year she continues doing the same.only difference was because she was bf baby, she used to wakeup every 4-5 hours until she was 6months..
also, there were lucky moms whose babies slept nicely for 8-10 hours, even though bf exclusively.
and all this dpends on your baby own sleeping habit,,his apetite, mothers quality of milk esp the fat level in the milk and yes formula.
and also want you to count on the cases of formula fed babies who have asked for formula feeds in the middle of night.these were the babies with above average apetite and were huge or heavy babies.
down the line, at 3-4 month onwards, ,they say bf babies on demand,,babies ecological system is made in a way just like ours, their body is able to balance their intake so that he can grow healthy.if u will try to overfeed them before they demand, you might trying to overfeed him or trying to disturb his own cycle..so avoid that.in a way its good that your baby is learning to understand that he cannot drink even though offered more...this way he will never overfeed himself !!!
as far as his weight is not decreasing, he is doing well, achievin his milestones on time,,not looking tired inspite of such a good sleep,,,there is no worry.also consider, season changes, esp cold weather,,babies love sleep more than in hot weather !! so u might want to consider that.
expect changes in your baby schedule, sleep hours, and also apetite every month or atleast at every milestone month like 3,6,9,12months... until he reaches 1 year.also upto 1 year, a healthy baby is expected to gain weight..and after 9months,, some remain steady with the weight & some gain,,,but no way decrease in weight..

Hi Hetal
Thanks for quick response.
As you asked her birth weight was 3kg 300 gms.
We weigh her weekly and she is gaining weight at the steady average rate.
