Problems in School:Poor school performance
2006-05-16
Name: alpana

My 11 year old daughter (DOB 23-dec-1994) has always found studies a burden. She is a sports person! Plays the organ well and loves dancing. Very polite and obedient and responsible kid at home.

Now her performance has deteriorated in school since she is in Junior 6th grade.

The lessons that she has learned and has been taken up at home, she does not write in the exams.

She is now often forgetting her books.

Her teachers are good. They are studying the British curriculum, so books are interesting. The portion is a bit too much so the teachers and kids are rushed.

How could I help her?

Her brother and cousin in the same school are not having problems and are both doing well.

Hi alpana,
Children have the tendency to continue in the manner they are used to or have been made habitual to. It seems that your child has been physical dynamic since many years. To be more specific she seems to have been physical dynamic since 3-4yrs of age and continuous to do good in such physical activities like sports.

As you have mentioned that she has developed a poor academic performace, it seems that your child is not getting the kind of attention, interest and motivation to relate to academics naturally. This attention, interest and motivation is the joint responsibility of the school, teachers and parents.

I suggest you do the following in short time to achive best results:
1. Go and meet her class teacher and other teachers.
2. Explain them the situation but do not complain about your child. Communicate in a manner that they feel it is a normal problem but it needs attention. Teachers require suggestions from parents oftenly to understand child problems. So go ahead and talk to them.
3.Get your child involved in some kind of concentration, mind attention exercises.
4. Have home work daily schedules and study sessions with your child. See that you are trying to make it funny, interesting and absorbing than leaving her along with her books.

I am sure by actively involving in the above mentioned your child shall grow to be a more intelligent and mentally stronger personality.

Take care and bye

Karan

Hello,
Your child has natural inclination towards sports and outdoor activities. If you see a talent in a particular sport that please nurture that.

We in our Indian socities expect all our children to outperform in our studies. Which is not the right approach.

However, to inculcate better understanding and live for books, let you kid join clubs (Science club, math-a-fun club, business club, astronomy club, scable club) at your local centres or nearest Kidzee centre.

If you need more information, you can call me at +91-9867167526 / 022-27563721.

Thank you
