Hi All!!
This is my first time on this site.
My daughter will turn 15 months on the 10 of this month, she was born 2.5 kilos at birth and now weighs 9 kilos.
The problem is doesnt take any kind of outside milk except for the milk i add in her rice porridge i make, she doesnt eat the regular yoghurts or cheese available. She eats the gerber or farleys baby fruit yoghurts, but sometimes coughs so hard after that, she ends up throwing up.
Please do suggest me a diet that can help her gain weight.
She eats:
9am -9.15am- 3-4 Dieterba biscuits mixed in a little warm water,1spoon of cerelac rice and 1 spoon of gerber fruit. All mixed smooth
10.30- bm (naps after that)
12.30-12.45- rice-dal and veggies with ghee and salt. (pureed)
2.15-bm (naps after that)
4.30- rice kheer made with a small cup of cow milk, little water and ghee, she doesnt like sweet too much so i add a pinch of salt.(pureed)
6.30- Gerber fruit yoghurt or any warm fruit pulp
7.30- 7.45- bm
8.45-9.00 - rice-dal with variation of veggies
(its same like lunch)
She does it bits of chhapatti or chicken
and we do add meat in her lunch and dinner, she's been eating meat in her food since she was 9 months, and she took to it well. I've stopped meat for a few days as she she had severe vommitting and diarrehea last week. She's better now touch wood!!
She throws up, if even for even a spoon extra is given, and she's been on bm milk till now, i starte solids at 6months, but i really need ideas on foods to help her gain weight.
Any kind of ideas are welcome, just she doesnt always take to milk well

Smita replied. i did try the mix of dals where i kept the chana and toor dal, low but i think she discovered that her khichdi tasted different and she didnt eat that so well, although i will try again.
she likes egg yolk in her khichdi and i hope that helps her weight gain.
i did add parmesan cheese in her rice aswell, she didnt eat it much too well, but hope that she will develop taste for that soon.
Thanks again for all the ideas and tips.

Hetal replied. hi smita,
check the mixture proportion that i mentioned in one of the post. the proportion of heaviest dal that is channa and toor dal is least among all the dal in the total proportion.and rice is 3-4times with that of dal,,with this proportion, you are putting curryleaves, hing, cumin pwder or cumin seeds, corainder pwder and vegies ! that are goodd spices and just enough for babies aid for digestion.and as far as i know a healthy 15month old eater is very able to digest it. my 9month old used to eat all this with proportion of 1dals:3rice with variety of vegies, even though she was sensitive to gas !!
she is 1year old now. and because m vegetarian, i wanted to make sure she gets all goodness of proteins thru these dals...they are far better than animal servings..
however, go by your gut feeling, if you think its going to be heavy to your baby,,you can try a dal a day, but the thing is khichdi with masoor dal and chana dal wont taste that good ! plus it will get sticky once out of cooker,,thats y i suggested to put all the dals together...
peanut butter is great to give, provided your baby has not shown ne discomforts in digestion or ne other allerrgic reactions likerashes etc..mushroom ok to give, but doesnt have ne goodies !,,almonds good to give, watch for allergies for all these foods, and giving walnuts is better than almonds so that your baby get highest number of omega fatty acids that are good fats.
about almonds & peanut butter,,they are very heavy,,make sure your baby has a goodd apetite before you give these things.
raagi porridge can be made in many ways,,in one of my post i think i have mentioned couple ways to make it,,check for that,,do wat suits your baby.
about meat : Offer pureed or finely chopped lean meat, poultry, cooked egg yolk, cheese, yogurt, or mashed beans or peas.Limit use of fried meats, gravies, and sauces..Avoid use of too many processed meats such as hot dogs, luncheon meats, bacon and sausage. They are high in fat and salt and can cause choking.go for white lean meats.
and after all that, always make sure your baby eats more vegies and fruits than ne animal servings..
Good Luck
Smita replied. Hi Hetal,
Those really are very helpful tips that you gave me . i have made a note of the links you forwarded, and i am going to try them out!
espcially the mix of dals, and using flavors in yoghurt of vanilla extract or cardamom and the parmesan cheese.
Anoushcka does eat wheat biscuits though in her breakfast.
i do give her a khichdi made from moong dal, rice and veggies.
what i wanted to ask you was:
The mixture of all the dals toor, moong, masoor and chana, won't it be heavy to digest, or can i try one dal a day accomapnied with her regular khichdi?
While cooking chicken with skin what part of the chicken do i need to get?
Are almonds, peanut butter and mushrooms safe to be given to a 15 month old?
How does one make ragi porridge?
Her weight has always been my concern, and you really have given me excellent tips, will go slow and try them out.
Minka, thank you for the egg yolk tip.
i was giving them and meat too, i stopped due to the sudden bout of vomitting and diarrehea.
Thankyou very much indeed.
Smita.
Hetal replied. 15month can eat alot of things,,multigrains, eggs, wheat ?/ where is all that...
thats all main source of diet. its good that he has alot of fruits and vegeis, but along with that add ins multigrains, wheat, eggs and meat if you are eating. 15month old eats easily 1/4th of adult one serving,,so start introducing other foods, she should be eating a variety of flavours and foods..
some ideas on recipes to increase good weight, is adding a ghee and cheese to her diet. try parmasean cheese with max calcium and always go for sharp cheeses or hard cheeses.
here are some links ofmy post, modify the ingrediants and add in extra dash of ghee or cheese and lots of protein in your baby diet for a good quality weight then just FAT,
nd let your baby njoy mini meals,,let her eat all day long eating every 3-4hours if she is not able to eat as required in one sitting..
now your baby should be eating toddlers cereal or some of light adult cereal. also continue giving milk products, if she vomits again, prob she needs a lil dose of it,,so go slow.
check for other tips below:
all these are great tips, try them out !
Good Luck
Minka replied. Hi ,
you haven't mentioned eggs . I think it would be good if you try egg yolks in scrambled or omelette or custard form. Childred generally like eggs .
