Hetal replied. 5–6 monthsBreast milk: on demand
OR
Iron-fortified formula: 4–5 feedings of 6–8 ounces each...
4–6 months Infant cereal( in case your dr has adviced to start solids): 4–8 tablespoons, mixed with formula or bm.
Infant juice: 2–4 ounces (¼ to ½ cup, from cup only) not the 100% juice, but the 1part of juice:4-5 parts of water. please note to give juices only of those fruits that you have introduced.
Six months Meat: 1–2 tablespoons or ne source of proteins like dals etc,,which m sure he is getting enough thru foods like khichadi.
avoid giving suji, at 6months, best time for your baby to get maximum benefit from ne wheat related products or byproducts are 9months.
horlicks and other milk pwders are adviced to give at 15months and onwards..they have malt thats very heavy at this point of time.
start introducing your baby variety of single grain cereals like oatmeal, barley and millet..if not found, cook the respective grain in pressure cook and throw some vegies or fruits with it.
by the time your baby comes to 9months your baby shouuld be able to graduate to al most all variety of fruits and vegies except citrus and gassy foods like potato,cauliflower.. once comfortable to all foods, include these.avoid giving toned milk or ne milk products until at the least 9-10months. give formula, go for iron fortified or if your baby is not taking it, try changing brand or the type like iron less or lactose free etc,,so that until your baby is 9-10months, atleast he will get good dose of nutrients that he is mising in bm..cows milk is not advisable, your baby might feel uncomfortable with it and might reduce the intake of solids..which you want to avoid..the key is to introduce a variety of single grains, fruits, vegies, and still keeping bm or formula as primary diet !
right now you baby is eating 5-6 tblsp, i find it pretty good ! also as far as you are keeping a min of 3 hours gap between solid feeds and formula or bm, he should be able to eat as mentioned in above chart or whatever he is eating is also good amt.
so that comes to a timetable of every 3-4hours, morning formula/bm-full feed, then after 3-4hours, solids/cereal with fruits, and then formula-half or 3/4th feed, and then vegetable serving with cereal or khichadi/dal rice with vegies,, and then after 3-4 hours, some formula or replace some diluted juice of fruit or vegie and finally after 3-4 hours(but before 3hours of sleep) one more serving of solid/cereal with some vegies(depending on how you started solids, and his consumption capacity)..and then before sleeping a full feed of formula.
try offering mini meals than trying to give 5-6tablespoons at a time,,key is to introduce more variety of nutrients than to give one time one type of food..also watch your baby liking, dislikes and his responses to ask for more solids or bm...do accordingly..
also make sure that during later afternoon onwards avoid giving fruits to your baby,,or give mild fruits like banana . or diluted juice of banna, apple.
so you know your baby cues nd responses to solids so you be the best judge,,his intake is good so i am not much worried.,,
if i were you, i will not be worried for my 6month old eating only 5-6tblsp.
good luck to you.
