Health Issues:Bed wetting
2005-05-23
Name: worried mom

I am a mother of 8 year old son. His bedwetting is not yet stopped. Like in a week atleast thrice he will bed wet. It has not stopped completely. Unlike my daughter who is 2.5 years of age, who has almost stopped bed wetting (once in a way she also bed wets). He has never been dry when he was young. We have tried all methods like before going to bed we make him to go toilet, we wake him up in the night for urinating, we will not give much liquid after 7 pm. But still he bed wets. I have even consulted a psychiatrist. But nothing has worked out. Kindly suggest me so that i can overcome this problem. Because of this, i am unable to send him for the relatives house during the holidays. He is a bit of shy boy.

Any suggestions so that i can make my son dry.

Regards,
Worried Mom.

Dear worried mom,

I think I may be able to help you on this one. My first cousin's son of 10 years also had the same problem, which is medically called as \";Primary nocturnal enuresis\";.

They consulted many a doctors and that too of various medical faculties but to no avail! Finally they were informed of a medicine by the name of desmopressin. The drug is available in India, but needs very careful monitoring. The presciption was given by a Paediatrician after a thorough evaluation.

After the drug, my nephew is under control and has not wetted.

You may too please ask your doctor (Paediatrician) for this drug.

RE:Consticipation for 4 years old
This is an old thread but one thing no-one said was that exercise is important for gut motility. All the green veg and pear juice will be limited in their effectiveness if the kid isn't very physically active (just walking more and driving less helps!)
Also, my usual comment - use a child-size glycerin suppository if he's gone for two or more days without doing a do.... - Suzanne [View Message]
