My son is 9 and 1/2 months old. I have exclusively breastfed him since birth. Initially, for 3-4 months, I used to express milk and give him by bottle at night and feed him myself during the day. I want to wean him now and start introducing formula or whole milk. but he doesn't take any other milk by bottle, sippy cup or straw cup. My doctor said if he doesn't like formula, it's okay to give him whole milk at this age. but he just doesn't take anything. He has also started loosing weight because of this. I don't know what to do at this point.
Does anyone have any tricks or ideas on how to get him to like either formula or whole milk. Please help. I really want him to start drinking some other milk than breast milk. Thanks in advance.

Hetal replied. some tricks to fool your baby !
add in formula and bm 50-50. or if your baby still resist, increase bm portion to 80%,,slowly come to 50% and then 10% and completely eliminate bm. this wil give your baby easy transition to formula and help him develop taste of formula along with bm !
also, for bottle, start with wide bottle neck with flow control nipple or all age transition nipples by second nature brand, its a bit expensive but has worked great for all babies who resisted in taking bottles.also dr browns bottle has worked great -if you are in US !
also, note that you can start sippy cup, soft spount, often nuby gives best results, however therre ae other available out, just make sure its flow control soft spout ones !
also, note that even though your dr has shown readiness in giving cows milk, its not recommended by aap(american academy of pediatrics) to introduce ne other milk before 1 year. however, most asian indian babies have not shown ne problems related to allergies or stomach upset and were allowed to start cows milk from 10months complete onwards.
transition the same way as i mentioned before, it will easier for your baby to get used to new taste..also changing the brand of formula also helps sometimes,,many babies have shown readiness in drinking formula when the brand was changed,,so if you are using enfimil with iron, change it to similac with iron and see if he accepts it,,after you try that transition method !
since your dr has shown readiness in cows milk, i would not comment on it, its a matter of a month only, but would like to mention that check for ne stomach discomfort or allergies after starting cows milk. dont start with bigger amts,,go little with babies,,one day one ounce, with some bm and then next day, one ounce with less bm and then likewise,,100% cows milk,,once given 1 ounce of cows milk in a day or so,his diet remains normal, his bowels remains normal and so is his activity levels and he is not showing ne signs of allergies on his skin,,then go further to 2unces..let the rest of the feeds still be bm or formula. and likewise, bring him to his total feed to cows milk,,and keep watching him for allergies and discomfort.
hope this suffices.
Good luck, njoy the time.

Thanks Hetal. I will definitely try your guidelines. Today I tried giving him 1/4 organic whole milk with 3/4 water in a straw cup. and he took about 3-4 oz. I'll try again tomorrow and see how it goes.
Thanks for your suggestions.
