Hi All,
Can anyone throw some light on which is the best kind of rice for babies. I have a 7 month young baby. I have been giving her boiled rice (white color thick rice), but recently i read that brown coloured kerala rice is best for babies...

Can you all pls comment on same.

thanks
Ruchi

Do you mean the Kerala matta rice? it has brown mark on it? That is very healthy rice. It is similar to boiled rice. Boiled rice which you are giving now is better than any other regular white rice because it is made in a way that keeps more of the vitamins into the rice. Ponni, sona masoori, thai rice are all regular white rice which is not boiled rice.

Brown rice is little bit more hard and young babies find it difficult to swallow. You can grind it a lot after cooking in lot of water. Or, grind the raw rice before cooking it.

best wishes to your baby.

i dont know about brown coloured rice of kerala..but i know about the brown rice in US...get a good one from a good health store.
and in indian brand, sona masoori rice of ne company is great type of rice, which is lightest to digest and is often gas free ! its available in all local indian stores..
never give long grain rice, puffed rice, basmasti or krishna kamod rice types,,they all are heavy in digesting and often are not recommended for kids below 5 years,,as daily food or normal food.
