Working Mother:Confused and worried

Dear All,
This is Uma, i had a baby girl in last oct.Now she is 4 and a half months old. Im working and have joined back office. My parents are staying with me to take care of her. Now my parents' visa is about to expire in another month's time. My MIL (mother-in-law) was to join us to takecare of my daughter after my parents left. But the problem is that she has some work in India and she will not be able to make it by that time. She might take another month or more to come. I cannot take leave from my office as i have joined back after 5 months maternity leave. My parents have suggested to take her along with them and send her back after a month along with my MIL. She is very much used to me, my husband & my parents. However, im a little sceptical. My baby is very cranky and stubborn at times, she doesnt go to strangers.I was wondering if at my MIL's place she will be able to adjust or not cuz we(me and my husband) will not be there for her at all. I thought of keeping her with my parents as she is used to them, but my MIL will not let that be... she will want to keep her grandaughter with her only. My inlaws are new to her. So she might take some time to adjust Dont know how long. I was worried weather to send her or not. Im scared if she feels home sick she might spoil her health, more over her vaccination programs are different here as compared to India. The very thought of sending her makes me upset. Please advice, im in dilema.. :-( I unerstand i need to make some compromise and its a matter of a months or so.

Hai Uma,

I live in Abu Dhabi in UAE, I was facing a similar problem around 3 years back. My view is that you should live your daughter in a good day care centre, start leaving your kid in a good day care centre for few hours when your parents are there with you, once she gets used to it then you can extend it to your full working day.
I am not sure, you must be breast feeding your baby and you must continue that for sometime, which you can do when you come back from work or when you get a lunch break (if there is one). This will be good in long run also, since your mother in law will also be not able to stay with you for a very long time and you would require some body to take care of your child till she can be alone at home. The training would start from now on to be independent.
One more suggestion is, if possible why dont you get a good Maid / House keeper to take care of your home and baby?

HI Uma,

I suppose you are in USA. She is your daughter and believe me you can take care of her in a better way. Also, she is your responsibility too.

There are good daycare options available. I know we Indians are little skeptical about the system, but children are well taken care of.

Please go and see YMCA day cares. They have good child VS teacher ratio. They are generally taken care of in a nice way.

I am telling u my experience. My daughter has been going to day care since she was 4 months , now she is 3 years. and I am totally satisfied with the professional approach. And I am not talking about USA, but various other parts of the world.

Go yourself, check them out, clear all your doubts. CHeck as many day cares as possible. Also, for you it is a matter of some time.

Secondly your parents or In laws are not going to stay with you forever. Sooner or later you have to check the options. DO it now.And don't be scared.

Also, indians have options of grandparents. Look at others around you american children. Don't they look healthier and smarter. 90% of them go to day cares. and our children have to be independent too.

ALso, dont even think of sending your child. YOu have to enjoy time with her and she needs you. Watch her growing. It is easier than you think. BUt just be open and change according to circumstances.
