i have got cracked nipples .. they r badly cracked .. if any one can please tell me how does this happen & now what can i do to cure them .. nt replied. apply lansinoh whenever u hv sore nipples.it is very easy 2 use.you dnt need 2 wipe it off b4 feeding.
2 use breast shells under your bra so that nipples will get air.
3.change breast pads regularly.keep breasts dry and clean.

1. A lanoline based ointment called 'Nipcare' is safe and effective. I used it in the first month of breastfeeding for both my children . Apply it after wiping the nipples with a cloth dipped in warm water . Before giving feed to the baby, wipe it off with a wet tissue . Its safe and wont cause any harm to your baby .
2. try to air the nipples when you are not feeding for a few minutes after each feed .
3. Keep any bacterial or fungal infection at bay by keeping good hygeine . gently peel off the skin of the nipples which often happens in the initial days and apply the ointment .Use only cotton bras , and if the bra is wet , change into a fresh one .Take care that the bra isnt too tight , that will cause more pain .
3. Most important, take care that your baby latches well , the right placement is a part of the aerola and the nipple. The pressure has to be put on the aerola to express milk and not tug at the nipple . The minute the baby pulls the nipple hard, just insert your finger and release it and then re-offer your breast along with the aerola .

It heals in 3-4 days. Pat replied. I faced the same problem till my baby was 1 month old. It happens only if the baby does not latch properly. See that the whole nipple and the areola gets into the babys mouth. Just apply coconut oil in the sore area. It will heal within 2 days if the baby starts sucking properly. Try different positions of feeding. Make sure that nipple together with most of the areola will go inside baby's mouth. You can also apply wet tea bags and it will help a lot(But make sure you wash your nipples before feeding). Above all, I can guarantee you that it will get better with time. If you are in US you can also get soothies pad at a nearby drug store which will help you a lot.
