Feeding:Solid Food - Feeding position

Hi All,
My daughter is 9 months old now and started solid foods from 6 months onwards along with the BM. Now she is fully on Formula and solid foods. But till now i'm feeding her the cereals in a lying position, that is in my lap. Now she sits on her own and wanted to feed her in sitting position, but when i tried once or twice, its very difficult and she often moves her head here n there. I didn't buy a high chair for her, without that how to do it. Please help on this.

Hello,

Where is the fun if feeding was not messy ;-) You could try to keep their hands busy by giving a toy or rattle. Ofcourse, there will be food all over that too! But it's worth trying.

One of my friends would place a shower curtain under the baby's highchair. After the feed she would rinse the shower curtain. After that, she would take the highchair outside the house and wash it with her garden hose! No kidding - it was that messy.

I don't mean to sound as if I know all about feeding. Whatever little I learnt was due to my 3 yr old. I like to share my experiences since I felt all alone in my experiences with my son and hoped that somebody would have suggestions.

Good luck, Aarti

Highchairs is the best when it comes to feeding.if you shop around you can find some inexpensive ones also.you will be really glad that you have invested in one.

You can sit crosslegged on the floor. I assume that you are righthanded. Place her on your left thigh. Just as the spoon goes near her, slightly hold the back of her head with your left hand. You can let go as soon as the food is inside the mouth. That way she will not think you are holding her too tight!

This might not work once she starts walking/running. You will end up having to chase her all around which is not recommended (although practiced by many moms!). Once she is walking, could you borrow someone's high chair for awhile? Or place some pillows on a regular adult chair. But you have to ensure that they are stable and do not slip under her.

Good luck. There is really no need to use a sad icon for this. All this will pass and you will move onto other problems :-) This will look very small at that time.
