Feeding:1 yr old fussy eater

Hi,

My baby daughter is 1 year old and is not eating solids properly. She takes 3-4 spoons and refuses. We have to distract her and somehow put in a spoonful. That also, she now spits out.
Please let me know how to encourage her to eat better. I don't want to force feed, but I am worried that she is not getting enough nutrition.

hi ,

I had the same problem with my 13 months old daughter, but I figured out that if I put her in a baby chair and show her noddy DVD's she quitly sits watching it and I feed her ,

Yes I have to think of another creative idea as soon as she gets bored.

bye

Hi ,

My son is 13 months old. I have the same problem with him . Some things I tried and it helps ( sometimes !!)

1) Has your daughter tried the foods that you eat ? She may be bored of the flavour and texture of her food. My son gobbles his food when we smear it on papad or biscuit and give it !!! we keep changing the spices in his food too - jeera, pepper, sambar powder etc in lil quantities.

2) Try combining textures and tastes in every meal . For eg, we give my son rice veggies cooked and mashed along with some curd and sugar in between. or he can nibble a lil biscuit in between his banana and milk mash.

3) try giving him some household item ( safe of course ) for him to keep himself occupied. My son is lately into figuring out how to open vaseline jars - enough to keep him occupied through a meal.

Sometimes my son is overtired and really does not want to eat although he's hungry. those times it's best to put him to sleep and feed him later - of course the food will go waste if you can't keep it .

All said and done , there are some days he just won't eat whatever you do ! so I just have to learn to let it go.We are currently feeding him meals sitting on the sink counter in the balcony watching crows and pigeons !!! and getting only half the job done.

Best of luck,
Minka
