Hello I am from an ' Indian' background, born and bred in Mauritius and now settled in the UK where I am bringing up my two children aged 5 and 18 months. My son is now at primary school and I am quite dumbfounded by the amount of comments his teacher has had about him, since he started school last year. Ranging from positives very confident, bright, clever and doing well academically to impulsive, possibly ADHD, overr excitable, fidgety ect..... aren' t thhese normal child behaviour at this age.....
I have met her a couple of times and she has always had a different approach she wants me to try.....
REWARD CHART!,TIME OUT, GIVING TREATS...THEN TAKING AWAY TREATS AND TOYS AS A MEASURE OF PUNISHMENT FOR ODD BEHAVIOURS.....
we donot really have any major problems at home and we do acknowledge that he needs to behave appropriately in school and he understands what we expect of him.....but at this age...should not the teachers be a bit more flexible....
I do not remember my parents using any rewards, treats ect or even pay me pocket money for helping around the house and behaving nicely...in my opinion i think it sends out the wrong message...that the children will expect to receive pocket money to help around the house, study ect and lie cheat ect to avoid loosing out on their treats!! I do not want to change my parenting style...as I donot believe the one the teacher proposes is better, but I would like some feedback and advice please!
Many thanks in advance
