Hi, my name is Donncha Fahy and I live in Ireland. Im doing a project at the moment concerning the effects of television on young children and part of my project is a survey. It would be great if you parents could answer the few short questions below. All I want are very short answers like simply Yes or No, because if the answers are too long I wont be able to put them together and get some statistics. Anyway here are the questions: 1. How many hours of TV a day, on average, do your children watch? 2. Does it affect their social life? 3. Does TV stop them from getting enough exercise? 4. Do you think they watch programs with unsuitable content? 5. If so, do you mind, or do you do anything about it? 6. Do you encourage them not to watch TV? 7. And finally, overall, weighing up the pros and the cons, do you think TV has a good or bad influence on your children? So remember, short, one word answers please. Thanks a million. lediana replied.

I am also worried a lot for my 8 yr old child for watching TV. I live in Canada & during winters the weather conditions are really bad. Kids can't go out & play. There's no alternative than to watch TV or play Computer. Well my answers to your questions are:

7.Its good to some extent but too much watching TV is not good at all.

7cant say. Few channel programs are very good. e.g. Some Indian channels, Discovery channel, BBC. They get awareness through such programs, which I think is very necessary. Some Indian programs are very informative, Children get to know many facts about our country, our culture, what happening around the world, scintific knowledge, etc.

I would like to give my views about TV and children.
Q16 hours I am a working mohter, so whenever I am not there my daughter is in front of TV

Q5 I try to discourage from watching the programs not meant for children, but not succeeded completely.

Q7 Its both good and bad. There are a lot of informative programs in many channels, but many of the children dont bother to watch that. They watch any channels and waste their valuable time of their life.
