Eating Problems:Failure to Thrive
2004-12-20
Name: Worried Mom

Hi,
I have 2.5 yrs. old daughter, and she was just diagnosed with Failure to Thrive. Doctor says she doesn't eat enough. She Fell from 95th percentile to 5th percentile on her wt. and 10th percentile on her height. I am really scared as she hates Milk,Cheese,Yogurt. All the dairy products and doc. wants her to eat more of that. I don't know how to encourage her to eat that. I tried everything and nothing works. Since her diagnosis I have been crying all the time I look at her. She is healthy otherwise. She is very active. Loves to play and talk and read books. How can I make my toddler to eat more?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

hey my daughter was also into low percentile & had difficulty feeding. But then we went to GI & she started prilosec for 6 months. slowly her body tunedin & her acidity reduced & she started normal eating. But most of all i think what helped was not drinking milk. Dairy is healthy but also it made her heavy & she didnt feel like eating other stuff. I think dairy shud be just suppliment. focus of cream of wheat sheera or ragi etc.

Hi,
I understand your problem. My baby is also not eating well. But these are a few suggestions.i assume you are in US
Give her cheese parathas. with yogurt.
Try differnt smoothies like strawberry, blueberry, banana and add some soy milk to it.
Try pediasure. They have chocolate, strawberry flavors.
Yo baby yogurt has different flavors.
If she is into reading, try to make characters from the books she reads into food. e.g., take a cheese slice, draw faces with white cheese, tomatoes etc.
Put her in front of TV, play some baby videos and feed her. This might set a habbit of watching TV but you can cut the time as she starts eating.
Also don't force her to eat. As long she is alert, playful and not getting sick all the time she will ge into the habbit of eating enough
Hope this helps
